By Kieu Giang in HCMC
Tu sach Kien thuc (The Knowledge Bookcase) under the management of the Saigon Times Foundation (STF) in collaboration with Tri Thuc (Knowledge) Publishing House has published three new books, Khoa hoc va cong nghe nano (Sciences and Nanotechnology), Trach nhiem xa hoi (Social Responsibility) and Xa hoi hoc ve tien bac (Sociology of Money).
The book Khoa hoc va cong nghe nano by Truong Van Tan, Defence Senior Research Scientist of Australia’s Defence Science and Technology Organisation, clarifies the origin and meaning of sciences and nanotechnology in simple words. The book also describes the applications of nano materials in miniature electronics components and cancer treatment. The book is priced at VND40,000 with 286 pages.
“Although this is a nanotechnology book, high school students can understand it,” said author Truong Van Tan at the launching on Monday.
The second book Trach nhiem xa hoi by Damien de Blic and Francoise Quairel-Lanoizelée and translated by Le Minh Tien and Pham Nhu Ho proposes a new way on relationships between economic activities and society. The book which is 231 pages and priced at VND33,000 suggests helpful thinking aspects to both researchers and people doing practical tasks (in the fields of economy, NGO, trade union, among others).
“The book is published at a time when enterprises’ responsibilities to society are questionable due to rampant environmental rule violations,” said Le Minh Tien. “Social responsibilities must be part of a development strategy of business instead of charitable affairs,” Tien added.
Xa hoi hoc ve tien bac presents a social approach to the matter of money. It explains some currency exchanges under the forms of social relationships related to money which is considered as a key to find out some rarely known aspects of society. The book, written by Damien de Blic and Jeanne Lazarus and translated by Nguyen Don Phuoc, an economic researcher, is priced at VND27,500 with 188 pages. “Do not be slave of money but to be money master,” said Nguyen Don Phuoc in a letter sent to the book launch.
Tu sach Kien thuc was born to popularize knowledge to students and those who care and support to broaden general knowledge in Vietnam’s contemporary society.
STF is calling for businesses and individuals to buy the three books to grant to libraries and schools nationwide. The cost of the three books is VND100,000, including postage.
