Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has unveiled the new 2018 Volkswagen Golf R-Line on the first day of the Malaysia Autoshow 2018 which will run through this weekend (26-29th April 2018). This rounds off the newly facelifted Golf family line-up for Malaysia. Showing its face for the first time in Malaysia, the Golf R-Line is the sportier of the two 1.4liter Golf variants sold here.
It is powered by Volkswagen’s 1.4TSI turbocharged engine and is coupled to a 7-speed dry clutch direct shift gearbox (DSG) which drives the front wheels. It has an output of 150PS and torque of 250Nm between 1,500 to 3,500rpm.
To differentiate the the Volksagen Golf R-Line from the less cooking version, the Sportline, this variant gets the ‘R-Line’ styling package which includes the ‘R-Line’ front and rear bumper, rear spoiler, ‘R-Line’ badges on radiator grille and side panels, and 17” Singapore alloy wheels. It also gets the Active Information Display (AID) inside like the more expensive Golf GTI and R variants. Seats are upholstered in their ‘Zoom’ fabric material.
“Since the launch of the Golf family, we have received very positive response towards the variants – and now with today’s unveiling, the family is complete. The Golf is such an iconic model for Volkswagen, and has a strong following here and around the world, so it is no surprise that more than 34 million units have been sold worldwide since it its market introduction in 1974. To date, demand for the Golf remains an all-time high for us.” said Mr Erik Winter, Managing Director of VPCM (pictured above) on the reception and current demand of the facelifted Golf range.
The Golf R-Line is for those that want a little bit more sporty styling in the Golf and also to those that aspire for a real ‘R’ but is willing to settle for less until their paycheck has more numbers on them.
The price of the Golf R-Line is RM166,990 before any insurance (the Sportline comes in at RM155,990, so it is RM10,000 more). It is available in Tumeric Yellow, Atlantic Blue, Pure White, Deep Black, White Silver and Indium Grey.
