Those who’ve been long-time followers of Massively OP’s long-running EverQuesting column might have noticed a distinct lack of new year hopes and predictions articles for the EverQuest franchise along with their end-of year accounting pieces. That’s because there haven’t been any for a couple of years. The last year I did them — 2016 — was the year we lost EverQuest Next and got hit with the announcement for Landmark’s death. Daybreak also failed in communication and community interaction front. The optimism I had when 2016 started was pretty battered by the year’s end, and then 2017 and 2018 just beat the tar out of it. Who really wants to delve into negatives at the start of a year? But who knows when I will have the chance again. Despite the loyal fanbases of EverQuest and EverQuest II and even the recent offering of lifetime All-Access memberships, I feel no assurance that the studio won’t implode this year. How could I? There … [Read more...] about EverQuesting: Can Daybreak make it through 2019?
Even as a Crowfall backer, I’ve been occasionally confused about the game’s test status, especially after it missed two of its original planned soft-launch windows in the last couple of years, and then the campaign testing at the end of 2018 only compounded the problem for a lot of our readers. Perhaps sensing the confusion, ArtCraft Creative Director J. Todd Coleman has a blog post up today with a clear outline of what’s going on in the game. Right now, the game is in pre-alpha 5.8. The devs are still calling this the First Campaign. Pre-alpha 5.8.1 will follow with the planned “capture point” mechanic. By the end of January, expect the team’s sanctioned campaign (probably), and then we’ll get the 5.9 clean-up patch. And then? A true alpha 6.0 is on the horizon. “There are a handful of features coming in alpha (numerically “6.0”),” says Coleman, “but the two largest of these include: The Dregs ruleset, which will … [Read more...] about ArtCraft outlines Crowfall’s (surprisingly short) road to alpha 6.0
With King Arthur, we have our first “mortal man” in the Battleground of the Gods. Guan Yu doesn’t really count, since he’s revered as a God, and considered a mark of good fortune to have Guan Yu in your place of business. He’s definitely something unique in the world of SMITE, and is the first member of the Arthurian Pantheon, with Merlin waiting in the wings. He is the Wielder of Excalibur, and he can do so many things with his absolutely bonkers moveset. There is something I’m going to go into a little more detail below, but there is one thing I absolutely, positively loathe about King Arthur – Why is he forced into Smart Cast? I don’t play with it, and I waste so many ability casts because I’m so used to being able to line up a shot before I drop it. Sure, I’m ultra casual, being Gold (at best) in Ranked Conquest. But I’m positive that I can’t be the only one who feels this way. King Arthur is an interesting … [Read more...] about SMITE God Review – King Arthur, Once and Future King
“2018 was the biggest year for digital games and interactive entertainment. Ever.” So sayeth gaming-trend research company Superdata, which recently published its year-in-review data for 2018. There’s a lot of information for the statistics nerds out there to sift through, but here are the major takeaways: According to the company’s research, “the games and interactive media industry grew 13% in 2018,” thanks in no small part to Epic’s golden goose Fortnite, which “generated the most annual revenue of any game in history.” Fortnite’s success was also part of the larger trend of the industry’s continued shift toward free-to-play titles, which “amassed 80% of digital games revenue in 2018,” though Superdata notes that “premium games still performed well in Western markets.” Perhaps not surprisingly, “Asian mobile games helped the region earn 62% of global free-to-play revenue, while North … [Read more...] about 2018 was the year of Fortnite and free-to-play games, according to Superdata research
SEGA is proud to announce the first-anniversary event for Shin Megami Tensei: Liberation Dx2 today. This event starts today (January 17th, 2019) and lasts until January 30th, 2019. A major update will also be coming soon, which adds the highly-anticipated Augmented Reality feature, “Devil Scanner”. Players will be able to summon demons and conduct negotiations this way. This will, in turn, increase the level of the Demon Scanner. The higher it is, the more demons the player can summon. This update will also introduce “Mitama Extract”. Mitama Extract is a special item that can be used to strengthen demons. After this update, players can occasionally obtain it by defeating Mitama demons. Besides “Mitama Extract”, the player can also infuse “Mitama” into selected demons to strengthen them.
