CCP Games delved into detail on this winter’s upcoming EVE Online expansion this weekend at EVE Vegas 2018, and it sounds like it will contain everything we expected and more. Following on from the success of EVE‘s first ever solo instanced PvE combat gameplay, a new co-op form of abyssal deadspace site will be added that lets up to three players in frigates to enter sites together for triple the usual rewards. We’ll also be getting an interesting form of PvP set inside abyssal deadspace, and blueprints for four new Triglavian ships will start dropping as rewards from sites. The expansion will take the first big steps in tackling the wardec problem by making corps that don’t own any space stations immune to wars, and will improve the new player experience with updates to the Agency interface. A series of new small deployable structures will be released to replace some of the last remaining starbase structures, including the first version of player-owned … [Read more...] about EVE Vegas 2018: Player-built stargates and co-op Abyssal Deadspace coming to EVE Online this winter
In a press release issued October 19, 2018 CCP Games and NetEase formally unveiled EVE: Echoes, a mobile MMO based on the Iclandic studio's Sci-Fi MMORPG EVE Online. The game is set to release sometime in 2019. Previously known as EVE: Project Galaxy, Echoes will be built on NetEase's proprietary graphics engine NeoX. While details are scarce at this time, it seems likely that the bulk of the development for the Android/iOS title will be done by the Chinese studio NetEase with CCP offering design and other consultation. Despite the change in platform and key developer, EVE: Echoes promises many of the same features that have made EVE Online standout for the past 15 years: a player-driven sandbox experience where users can explore a massive galaxy, form corporations and forge alliances, plot trade routes, and take part in epic space battles. While we've been given little details on how all this will play out on a mobile device, its clear Echoes will be an ambitious project and that … [Read more...] about CCP Games & NetEase Announce EVE: Echoes, A Mobile Spinoff Of EVE Online
Welcome back to another roundup of businessy things of interest to MMO players this week! Discord If you’re one of the bajillions of MMO players who use Discord, heads-up for you: Discord made unilateral changes to its terms of service this week, effectively revoking your legal right to sue Discord as part of any future class action. Any issues you might have with Discord in the future – say, a massive data breach – would instead be subject to arbitration. To opt out of this, you’ll need to email Discord (deleting your account won’t opt you out). Discord employees have confirmed the move on Reddit, claiming it’s not trying to “dodge responsibility” but rather trying to avoid frivolous class action lawsuits. Steam China Don’t fret too much about the state of gaming in China since the state crackdown on game approvals; turns out that Steam counts 30M users in the region thanks to Dota 2 as well as local titles aimed specifically … [Read more...] about MMO Business Roundup: Discord’s new TOS, Steam China, EA vs Actiblizz, Dota 2’s transparent lockboxes, WASD
Next in this list we have Closers, or in this case, Code Closers since I prefer Code Closers to the official Closers game. The Black Lambs, Wolf Dogs and Wild Hunters. Now, I apologize in advance for butchering these characters names, but here we go.Seha, your traditional sword-wielding shonen lead.Seulbi, a telekinetic that hits people with daggers.. ’cause she thinks that’d be smarter or more useful than picking 100 enemies up and ripping them all in half.Yuri, a sub-genre of Anime that I love watching when my wife is at work.J, who hits people.Misteltein, a powerful gender-bending little shouta knight that makes you question your sexuality at times. Or.. people that’re interested in lolis, anyway. Never been my thing, honestly. I like my girls.. wait, when did this become about me?Nata, the foul-mouthed, quick-tempered knife user.Levia, the witch of the group, and also the kinda girl I’m into. She’s apparently very good at following orders, and super … [Read more...] about A More Detailed Look At The Only Anime MMORPGs Left Worth Playing In 2018 And 2019.
If WildStar will go down in gaming history as the MMO with the consistently shortest quest text, then Lord of the Rings Online has to take home first place for the longest. And not just the longest text boxes, either, but the most dense as well. It can actually be a shock for the average MMO player who was raised on bite-sized quest instructions to encounter the infamous blue box of LOTRO’s bequeathals. While there are some quests that kick off with only a brief paragraph or two, more often than not, you’re going to encounter walls of text that are higher and mightier than those guarding Helm’s Deep. If you’re not a reader, you will find yourself crit for a couple thousand words, some of which are clearly made up on the spot. Yet these quests offer excellent writing and a deep connection to lore, which is not something you always get in such games. In short, Lord of the Rings Online’s quests can be either a burden or a blessing, depending on the type of … [Read more...] about LOTRO Legendarium: Wait a minute, LOTRO, you lost me
