Even as a Crowfall backer, I’ve been occasionally confused about the game’s test status, especially after it missed two of its original planned soft-launch windows in the last couple of years, and then the campaign testing at the end of 2018 only compounded the problem for a lot of our readers. To balance out our traditional Daily Grind on MMOs that contribute to the death of the genre, it seems only fitting to do one on the MMOs that push the genre forward too. In fact, this is one of the categories that pops up every year as a possible formal award, but it’s often sidelined by things like “best indie,” since let’s face it, a lot of the genre’s innovation is happening in indies. And a lot of those indies aren’t done yet. Not even close. So they’re not up for many awards. That brings us to the question of the day then. I’m not talking about your favorite MMORPG, here, mind you. I’m talking about the individual ideas they’re bringing to the whole genre. Dauntless patch cranks the temperature up in the Shattered Isles with a brand new Dire Behemoth. Slayers who can take the heat can now hunt down and go toe to toe with Scorchstone Helion with the launch of Patch OB 0.6.4. “Scorchstone Hellion has been burning it up in the Maelstrom. Be careful if you choose to pursue this quarry – its command of lava makes it an especially deadly Dire Behemoth.” The patch also introduces new curly hairstyles and new character customization sliders. Update your character’s look by interacting with the mirror in Ramsgate Plaza. Aside from new customization options, the update also brings with it a new UI for crafting potions and grenades as well as Middleman purchases. Fortnite player, you might want to take this opportunity to change your account password and make sure that everything’s as it should be. Turns out that there was a flaw in the game’s login procedure which could have given hackers access to any and all 200 million of their registered player accounts. The security flaw was reported by Check Point, an independent cybersecurity firm. According to Check Point’s researchers, hackers could’ve gained access to accounts by exploiting weaknesses in Epic Games’ web infrastructure, using phishing links that would have looked like a legitimate Epic Games sub-domain. Once clicked, malicious code would then capture the user’s login credentials and give the hacker access to the whole account including personal information, the ability to purchase premium currency, and even eavesdrop on in-game communications.
