Play AION for freeYou may be able to walk like an Egyptian, but can you fight like one? You’d better if you’re going to venture into Aion this weekend, because the Egyptian-flavored Secret of the Ancients event is back for another run. Players will be trying to capture the spirits of monsters while participating in an array of quests. These will reward Ancient Shards, which can be turned in for a goodie chest, XP, a key bundle, or a random Puzzle Box. The event is running from now through June 6th. “The Ancient King Ramsus and his wife Queen Shepsut have returned to the world of Atreia,” NCsoft said. “With them have arrived mysterious monsters that threaten all inhabitants of Atreia. Help them return the monsters to their time, and get rewarded with EXP and fabulous prizes.” Fabulous, people, FABULOUS. South Korean gaming giant NCSoft reported their Q1 2018 earnings today with total revenue coming in at 475,159M KRW ($444M USD), down 11% quarter over quarter and up 98% year over year. As with their previous earnings reports, take a look at sales by game: Despite a slight dip from last quarter, mobile games continued to dominate, bringing in over half of the company's total revenues. Every other game saw a slight dip as well with the exception of Aion which saw a big jump which NCSoft attributed to a "change in monetization scheme" (sounds like they upped the p2w). In their investor call with analysts, NCSoft acknowledged that Blade and Soul 2 for mobile was delayed into 2019 after failing to meet expectations. The entire game will be getting redesigned and will be developed by an entirely new team (basically same deal as Lineage Eternal). Project TL on the other hand seems to be on track for a release sometime next year. South Korea remains the #1 region for NCSoft with over 70% of … [Read more...] about NCSoft Reports Q1 2018 Earnings, Aion Revenue Up, GW2 and B&S Down
NCsoft’s first quarter 2018 financial results are in, and it’s… kinda OK? Guild Wars 2 saw a big drop-off, though that’s to be expected since the previous quarter saw revenues from Path of Fire. “GW2 sales dropped 32% QOQ but increased 66% YOY, as some of the 2nd expansion pack effect was included,” NCsoft notes. Blade & Soul continues to perform well QOQ, though it’s lost a quarter of its revenue YOY, and Aion revenues surged, NCsoft says, “fueled by the change in the monetization scheme.” Lineage itself at one time seemed to drive the company all by itself, but it’s down QOQ and YOY too. So is the company’s mobile games branch, which was riding high on Lineage M last year but is now “stabilizing” at what one might assume is a more realistic number (which is still higher than the five big MMORPGs combined). As MMO Culture reports, the investor call itself admitted that Blade & Soul II for mobile has … [Read more...] about Revenues for all NCsoft MMORPGs are down in Q1 2018 except… Aion?
This is part 2 of the “Housing in MMOs” series. Part 1 was looking at Lord of the Rings Online. Today’s MMO is Aion. This blog post was largely written by thevalliant and edited by me in some parts. While I did play around with my free studio in Aion, I really don’t know that much more about housing in the game, so I asked somebody who does. When reading this article, please keep in mind that we both play on the European servers which are handled by Gameforge while the US servers are still handled by NCsoft. There may be differences in details like item shops, etc. between those two versions. There are 5 types of residences in Aion: studios, houses, mansions, estates and palaces, in order of grandeur. These can be found in three areas for each race (Elyos and Asmodians): two ‘contested’ areas (where PvP may occur) and one ‘neutral’ area, that is the main ‘residential area’ for each race, Oriel (Elyos) and Pernon (Asmodians). … [Read more...] about Housing in MMOs: Aion
Play AION for freeThe merges are coming! The merges are coming! Aion Europe players have under two weeks to prepare for merges designed to “populate Atreia more densely” and consolidate language-specific communities. On April 25th, Aion EU is going to merge its eight servers down to four, creating one German, one English, one French, and one Polish server. Gameforge did give itself some wiggle room and warned of the possibility of a date change. Players on affected servers can choose to transfer their characters to a specific shard through May 15th. Aion is planning to hand out relocation gifts to all players, including a greater minion contract and 30 days of hanging with a white tiger. In addition to the announcement, there’s a more in-depth FAQ that answers specific questions.
