Tack this on your list of action-RPGs to watch. Mad Head Games announced that it is developing a blend of ARPG and MOBA with its upcoming Pagan Online. The title is being made in conjunction with Wargaming and should come out next year. “We’ve modernized how combat in a top-down action RPG works, taking cues from MOBAs to create something that’s fast-paced, overwhelming with enemies, and super challenging,” said Creative Director Uros Banjesevic. More ARPGs
Yesterday I talked about a few ARPGs I had been playing as an attempt to get the Diablo Immortal thing out of my system. Since then a handful of you have suggested other games to me, and I thought I would take a moment this morning to talk about a few competitors for the “next great ARPG” crown that I have spent some time playing. This has always been a genre that appealed to me, so as something new comes down the pipe I tend to check it out at least for a bit. These projects seem especially popular on Kickstarter because everyone seems to have loved Diablo 2 and wants to build a better version of it. That can be a positive or a negative, especially considering post Diablo 3 I found it almost impossible to go back and play Diablo 2 again. Victor Vran We will start off with the weirdest entry in the list first, largely because it does a lot of things… not like other games. First off this is primarily a WASD game with your primary … [Read more...] about More ARPGs
Torchlight Frontiers Reveals Relic Weapons for The Shared World ARPG
Torchlight Frontiers will have some exciting weapons to collect, in the form of Relic Weapons, in the Shared-World ARPG. These powerful, ancient items are earned through the game’s crafting system. The Relic Weapons can be activated for a limited time to carry out incredible, earth-shattering attacks on incoming enemies, and when equipped in battle, also provide additional powers and unique effects. Since power progression in Torchlight Frontiers shifts away from character levels and focuses more on gear quality, Relic Weapons can be leveled up to increase/gain new item stats and unlock special skills. The Relic Weapons should give players flexibility in choosing weapons that define the playstyle that suits them best. Three of them were revealed today: Bane – Causes poison bolts to erupt from a powerful staff Fire Striker – Shoot fireballs at its foes from a flame-wielding sword Flaming Destroyer – Grants the power to summon an … [Read more...] about Torchlight Frontiers Reveals Relic Weapons for The Shared World ARPG
Massively OP’s guide to choosing an online ARPG
Bored of MMOs, despondent about the industry, or simply looking for something a little different? Turning to something similar to MMOs, yet offering a new experience, is what’s attracted many people to online action RPGs. MMOARPGs, or ARPGs for short, are a booming segment of the online games industry for their fast gameplay, bite-sized sessions, and ease of play. They’re distinguished by features not generally found in MMOs, such as click-to-move, an isometric viewpoint, time-to-kill that is often lightning fast, simple controls, heavily instanced worlds, and loot exploding out of corpses like squishy piñatas. Still, they offer many of the same qualities that are found in traditional MMOs, most notably persistent characters and multiplayer connections. If you’ve ever been curious about trying out an online ARPG but don’t know where to start, here’s our quick-and-dirty guide through four titles that are bridging the gap between MMOs and … [Read more...] about Massively OP’s guide to choosing an online ARPG
What was/is your favorite ARPG and why?
Me... always been a big Diablo fan. From day one. I was one of the people in on the hoax of the "Secret Cow Level" back with the original Diablo. I created a site based entirely on how to get there and what to expect (all screen shots fabricated by me). I saw a screen shot that I created on an official Diablo video recanting the lore of the secret cow level and I was pretty excited to know that I contributed to the lore. It was far from my idea but I was one of the few that took it to the next level and got people to seriously believe. I got in some hot water with the dev team when I posted a joke about using a dos script to get into the cow level, a couple people I guess actually tried it.... it was a script to format your hard drive, I posted at the end of the post that contained the script that it was a joke and not to do it, guess they never got that far in the paragraph. I thought most people were smart enough to know what /Format That aside Diablo was always big on story and … [Read more...] about What was/is your favorite ARPG and why?
