Welcome to today’s Bookahneer’s Geekwatch and the first Geekwatch in 2014! The place about miscellaneous interesting news related to Guild Wars 2 – and on occasion, other games. We have been relatively quiet for some time, as we had visited bookahnerk’s family over New Year’s. My plan had been to use the time away from my main PC to play around with Folk Tale and its Location Editor Preview on my laptop. Unfortunately, my laptop – which isn’t a gaming laptop – can’t handle the game. I shouldn’t have been surprised about that, I guess. ;) On the other hand, that left me with more time to play board games with the family which isn’t a bad thing either (and I got to play all the expansions we have for Talisman now). So, as I just mentioned, Folk Tale got another update. Yes, updates are very slow with Folk Tale and if you have bought into their Early Access, you’ve got to be patient. But they do update us regularly on … [Read more...] about Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (January 5, 2014)
Welcome to today’s Bookahneer’s Geekwatch! The place about miscellaneous interesting news related to gaming (will most likely include at least one piece about Guild Wars 2 ^^). The big news first: No more NDA for Star Wars: The Old Republic! Have fun talking about your beta experiences! I haven’t been part of the beta despite having signed up as soon as it was available. Alas, I’m a European player, so I never had a chance to even be considered until a few weeks ago or so. Pffft. ;) Runic Games also came with an update today. Unfortunately, this isn’t such good news. The game will be postponed until 2012. If this is good or bad for them is still up for debate, I guess. The good thing is definitely that they want – and apparently need – more time to finish their game and polish it as much as possible. I think too many games have been released too early, so even though I’m looking forward to certain games (*cough*Guild Wars 2*cough*), I … [Read more...] about Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (November 18, 2011)
Welcome to today’s Bookahneer’s Geekwatch! The place about miscellaneous interesting news related to Guild Wars 2 – and on occasion, other games. This is too good a date to not have a Bookahneer’s Geekwatch, don’t you think? :) I’m going to start this column with an unusual request. We were approached by researchers from a psychology project at Charles Darwin University who asked if we could tell our readers about their study. It’s titled “You and your avatar”. Being a fellow psychologist and researcher, I have no problem with promoting something like this. :) You can find the questionnaire here but please read through the text carefully, especially the “risk” section as the questionnaire includes items that could be bad for you if you’re dealing with e.g., depression. Here’s part of the email we got which explains a bit better what this is all about: “We are conducting an Internet based psychological … [Read more...] about Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (12.12.12)
Welcome to today’s Bookahneer’s Geekwatch! The place about LotRO, Guild Wars 2 and any other interesting news related to gaming. E3 has brought us quite a lot of fascinating news, so here we go: Trailer/Teaser videos: Warhammer 40k: Dark Millenium Online published a trailer which allows a tiny little glimpse into the game. Neverwinter developed by Cryptic also shows off a trailer:Trion Worlds, developer of Rift, is working on Defiance, an open-world shooter MMO. You can find a trailer on their website. It doesn’t show that much yet but I really love the flowers in the beginning. ;) Last but not least: Sims Social – yes, the Sims as a Facebook game. Talking in cliches: Maybe now all those old, male MMO gamers that are still living in their mothers’ basements can actually get a date? *cough* Yes, this looks exactly like the kind of game we were missing.Lord of the Rings Online: Rise of Isengard‘s release date was announced (September 27, 2011) plus you … [Read more...] about Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (June 8, 2011)!
Do you know when we had our last Bookahneer’s Geekwatch? In September 2016! To be honest, I actually forgot I had this column and whenever I had a few gaming things that got me excited, I thought: Nah, that’s not worth a whole blog post. But that’s exactly what this column is for, after all. I have been really busy in “real life” and will continue being so from now on. All is good, though, except that I don’t have as much gaming time as I would like to have. Naturally, now there are and have been several sales for games that I have been wanting to get and I couldn’t resist! When it comes to games, I am apparently a hoarder. But when a game costs only 2 € and I want it, I just can’t resist. “Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition” was such a sale. I don’t remember the exact price I paid for it, but it was cheap. A member from our pen and paper roleplaying group had recommended the game to me as it’s apparently … [Read more...] about Bookahneer’s Geekwatch (June 2018): New games and E3
