I don’t have an awful lot to talk about this morning, apart from just how badass my Orc Warrior Lady looks in the Blackhand set combined with the revamped version of the crazy Black Temple shield and Mechanar sword. As much as I generally did not like the story arc of Warlords of Draenor… it produced a bunch of gear that I absolutely love. The Iron Wrath set still is among my all-time favorite Warrior sets and I really need to put some time into farming the transmog bits that I am missing. One of the things I realized last night is that my attachment to the Sun Eater’s appearance is at least in small part because I farmed Heroic Mechanar for ages to try and get it. It also made me realize how different the economy of gear is now as to when it was back then. There were items worth farming because when you got them… they would actually serve as a pretty good weapon for a good while into raiding rather than something you toss in the … [Read more...] about Disposable Items
The video games industry is one of huge size and significance. In fact, it is now generating more revenue than the movie and music industries combined, with global video game revenue sitting at an estimated $91.5 billion, in comparison to the movie industry’s $38.6 billion (global figure) in 2016 and the music industry’s estimated $47.5 billion. It was three years ago, in 2015, that video games surpassed these two other entertainment powerhouses. Gaming encompasses a lot of different genres and platforms, from MMO games played on high-end PCs and gaming laptops to casual puzzle games played on affordable mobile devices. It’s clear that there are all manner of ways for developers to cut themselves a slice of the lucrative games industry pie and make a game that best reflects their creative talent. With so much at stake and with there being so many ways to get into the games industry, it may come as little surprise that thousands upon thousands of new games are … [Read more...] about How Do Game Developers Identify Market Trends?
Closers is one of the latest combatants entering the arena of online action hybrids coming out of Korea. Unlike more traditional “isometric view” ARPG style games, Closers is a side scrolling beat’em-up featuring a hybrid combat system, social hubs, and character classes with elements of RPG progression. advertisement Many years ago, much of the earth was ravaged by interdimensional monsters. These beings emitted a phase energy that granted some humans psychic powers. Humans, with their new powers, battled and fought off these monsters driving them back in what is appropriately known as “The First Dimensional War”. The relentless monsters are back, pouring through portals in New Seoul. This is where you come in. You’re a new recruit for one of the two factions, the high-tech Team Black Lambs owned by UNION Corp. or the edgy and oppressed Team Wolf Dogs operated by Vulture Corp. UNION runs Closers, an elite team of psychic aware humans … [Read more...] about Side Scrolling Beat’em-up Action
So with Legion, Blizzard decided to remove the Legendary Ring storyline from the game. Since this storyline does a lot to set up the explanation behind the Legion expansion, as well as go into many of the motivations for staying around on Draenor after the destruction of the Dark Portal, I felt that it was deserving of a story summary so that people can have some level of reference if you want to know what went down in Warlords of Draenor. Chapter I: Call of the Archmage Upon reaching max level, you will find a familiar glowing friend wandering around your garrison. This arcane construct brings word to you from Archmage Khadgar who requests your aid with a mission he has and asks that you come meet with him at his tower in Zangarra. There he, along with trusty Watcher bodyguard Cordana Felsong, explain that to accomplish this mission he will need your help and to do so you will need a special tool that will help you along the way. A powerful piece of equipment … [Read more...] about World of Wacraft: Warlords of Draenor – Legendary Ring Story Summary
Almost 6 years ago in 2010, I penned an article entitled the Are Chatless MMOs a Precursor to Console MMOs? It was during that fateful year that Blizzard designed to automate the process of assembling groups for dungeons in their World of Warcraft MMO with a feature called the Dungeon Finder. WoW would never be the same. Back then that I predicted the bleak, anti-social future of MMOs that had decided to embrace the seductive path of convenience based game design. That future is finally here with WoW and it is not good. The closure of the Nostalrius legacy server has made world-wide news and touched a nerve. The very existence of legacy servers is a public repudiation of Blizzard’s stewardship of WoW. Many faithful fans are finally asking serious existential questions about the current state of WoW. The fact that hundreds of thousands of people are voting with their feet and rejecting the current version of WoW and instead are playing on legacy servers speaks volumes about the … [Read more...] about How a Video Exposes the Sorry State of World of Warcraft
