Ashes of Creation will hit alpha one by the end of the year, Intrepid Studios announced today during its panel at PAX East. The game slipped into a phase it’s calling “alpha zero” back in December. “The first phase of this public test for all Alpha One level backers will focus primarily on combat, hosting large amounts of players for our siege and warfare systems,” says the studio. “Leading up until the start of Alpha 1, we will still be inviting more players into the Alpha Zero Friends & Family tests.” Massively OP is at PAX East this week and slated to meet with Intrepid tomorrow, so stay tuned for more coverage, and check out the new PAX video below! Play RIFT for freeAs RIFT’s Prime progression server enters into its second month of existence, questions have loomed above the community that’s making its way to level 50: How fast should we be going? When is Trion Worlds going to unlock additional content, and what does that schedule look like? When we reached out to Trion, CM Linda Carlson gave us the scoop: “Dev has just assembled the second challenge for players, tailored to where folks are in game and will be soon — we expect to start talking progression more later this month, once the overall population progresses together. Many of the class changes were nerfs, so expect some players to be shifting their builds around in response. If you weren’t into plunking down 20 bucks for early access MMORPG Arcfall, then this coming Friday is your lucky day, as the game is formally going free-to-play. “With the next update coming to Steam on the 6 April, we have decided to make Arcfall Free to Play,” the studio told Steamgoers this weekend. “Because it already has an item store, it will not change any of the core design but will allow more players to enjoy the game.” Folks who’d already paid in will be granted in-game cash to spend in the store, worth about half again as much as they actually paid, which sounds fair. Founder packs will continue to be sold and will be buffed accordingly. The isometric MMO’s latest pre-alpha update was a big boon chiefly to crafters and mages thanks to bug fixes and the new mage spellbook, but it also tweaked mount speed (faster now) and property deeds (cheaper now). The upcoming April 6th update, however, is being heralded as the game’s … [Read more...] about Arcfall is going free-to-play with this week’s big pre-alpha patch
April Fools’ Day this year has been pretty weird, given that MMO studios started rolling out their pranks and events in the middle of last week, and here we are on a holiday and a Sunday too. We’ve seen everything from sitting in chairs to real-life theme parks teased. Pokemon teamed up with a noodle company. Elder Scrolls Online’s been running its Jester’s Festival for four days already! I’m pretty fond of Path of Exile: Royale myself. War Thunder’s devs invited everybody to play the quiet game. For our part, we’re enjoying a round of Massively OP Bingo, and as promised, we’re sharing the board down below so you can join in while answering today’s Daily Grind: Which MMORPG has the best April Fools’ Day prank this year? Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre.
