Premier European digital media conference, Dmexco, is currently underway in Cologne. As global brands, publishers, and ad tech leaders meet to discuss opportunities and challenges in digital media, a new set of data protection laws proposed in the European Union have quickly become the hottest topic of discussion. This is your go-to guide for understanding the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, and what it means for you. General Data Protection Regulation is the new regulatory framework that will replace the 1995 data protection directive, which has been around for two decades and in conjunction with national data laws, currently lays down stipulations for how businesses and public offices collect, store, and use personal user data in the European Union. In these two decades, the Internet-based economy has gone mainstream, changing how user data is captured and used by businesses — both in terms of size and scope, rendering the older directive largely obsolete. Destiny 2, my big hope for online extravagance, failed to live up to expectations. World of Warcraft has hit another lull in the gulf between expansions. Over the last 12 months, nothing new has truly landed and stuck. Yes, there’s a few surprises. Final Fantasy XIV launched its Stormblood expansion, while Guild Wars 2 brought us Path of Fire (more on both later). But, putting these to one side, the biggest breakouts in online gaming haven’t brought us grand new MMOs. Instead, tight new ideas like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Fortnite have dominated the online scene. Anyhow, enough dwelling on the past. Looking onwards to next year, and there are some significant gems on my release radar. Not all of them are MMOs in the purest sense, but I’m confident this selection will still scratch that itch. So, without further ado, here are my MMO picks for 2018. The Hit-List After pledging on the Crowfall Kickstarter, I’ll admit to being the laziest backer out … [Read more...] about My MMO Picks for 2018

Conan Exiles is Funcom’s take on an open world, survival Conan world where players write the stories and create the fun with the tools at their disposal. The game is finally exiting early access to launch globally on May 8th 2018, and much has changed. Since our review almost a year ago, the dev team has continued to iron out issues and improve gameplay based on early access feedback. Now that we’re a month away from launch, are the new changes worth checking out? Here’s what’s coming. A New Combat System The new combat system is very different and a huge improvement on the old one. The new system for Conan Exiles will have the brutal, tactical and savage combat which a Conan game deserves. The first thing you might notice is the new visual style. The game takes place in the fantasy world of Milura, where players must band together to take down the impending demon horde. Sounds like your typical cliche MMO origin story. There are 5 classes to pick from, each branching out to offer players more Talent Tree options at level 20. From the tutorial, you’ll be introduced to characters, and what the stakes are immediately, which rushes you into the defense of your … [Read more...] about Is Crusaders of Light Worth Playing In 2018? 3 Quick Thoughts
