Note: No spoilers. Let me just preface this by saying I don’t read a lot fantasy, and I certainly do not consider myself an enthusiast of the genre as I get through only about a handful of fantasy-themed books every year. I find my preferences gravitate towards historical fantasy, but I’ve pretty much given up on the magical, heroic, or epic sub-genres. Maybe I’ve just had bad luck choosing titles on my own, but most of what I’ve read have either made me sick or bored me to tears. Not so with The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. In fact, I was overcome with a sense of contentment soon after I turned the last page. It’s the sort of feeling you get after finishing a satisfying read, complete with just the hint of sadness at the fact the book has finally come to an end. That’s saying something, seeing as the hardcover version of the book is a whopping 1008 pages. And this is just the first of what is planned to be a 10-novel series! Considering the … [Read more...] about Read Lately: The Way Of Kings

Anthem’s Early Access is live and Origin Premiere subscribers can already play BioWare’s latest RPG narrative driven loot shooter. We’ve spent a chunk of time playing it and it’s time to talk about the game’s core attraction, the suits that players wear to battle called Javelins. Anthem has four Javelins at launch, the Ranger, Storm, Colossus and Interceptor. You start out with one, but by gaining more Freelancer Pilot levels, you can unlock more. So which are the best Javelins to use? Here’s our overview. Storm The result of using The Dominion’s technology for gain, the Storm is an elemental Javelin that’s insanely fun to play. It has a longer flight and hover time over the rest, but the caveat is it can’t withstand a lot of heavy hits. But what it lacks in survivability the Storm more than makes up for it in the firepower department. Known as The Nuker, Storms can absolutely dish out insane damage and string or set up numerous … [Read more...] about Anthem: Which Is The Best Javelin? All Javelins Ranked
Apex Legends is a brand new free to play battle royale shooter by Respawn Entertainment. The makers of the Titanfall franchise pulled this rabbit out of the hat last week, and the game has soared in popularity. It hit 10 million players in just 72 hours, which should give Fortnite and PUBG something to think about in the long term. The game lets you play as heroes called Legends, each with their own unique skills, abilities and personalities. Therefore, here’s our take on which are the best to play. #1 Lifeline Simply put, Lifeline is probably the best and most popular Legend in Apex Legends. She’s a healer and support class first and foremost, which means every squad must have one. And for squads that don’t, you’re just making it harder for yourselves. Lifeline’s key abilities includes reviving teammates 25% faster and can place a barrier while doing so. This is a key component that should be leveraged as downed players can be finished off and then … [Read more...] about Top 5 Best Apex Legends Heroes Ranked
The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) Expansions Ranked From Best to Worst The Lord of the Rings Online aka LOTRO is a classic MMORPG based on Tolkien’s trilogy. The game follows the books closely rather than PJ’s movies, which is great for fans of the lore. Now in its 11th year, LOTRO has seen numerous expansion releases. Each for their time added new content and features that enhanced the game. Other times, some tweaks were not well received by players. This resulted in players leaving for greener pastures or taking breaks. And since the Mordor expansion is on sale right now for 30% off, we’re ranking all LOTRO expansions. 1. Mines of Moria The Good: Size, Instances, Atmosphere, LI System, Revamped The Bad: LI System, Lighting, Gets old after taking 6+ characters through Thoughts: MoM is my favorite expansion in Lotro. Taking my main character through Moria the first time was an awe-inspiring experience, filled with exploration, great questing stories, a … [Read more...] about The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) Expansions Ranked From Best to Worst
“Read and write four to six hours a day. If you cannot find the time for that, you can’t expect to become a good writer.” In his book on writing, horror novelist Stephen King advised that any serious writer should spend four to six hours a day doing some mixture of both reading and writing to hone their craft and become good at what they do. As you may imagine, this can be incredibly difficult for people who don’t have the luxury of just sitting around doing both hobbies for a large chunk of the day. I, for one, have two jobs, four kids, a wife, and other interests and activities. So should I just not write? Am I doomed to mediocrity? I understand the spirit of what King is saying — mainly that it’s important to train in reading and writing to become better, and you can’t do this in tiny measures — but I don’t fully embrace it, either. You do what you can do. I don’t often get as much time to read every day as I might like, … [Read more...] about Novel: How long should a book be?
