Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) will be launching its free to play and preferred changes for the MMORPG this month with Game Update 5.10.4. For those that don’t know, SWTOR is a free to play MMO with an optional subscription, and former paying players are known as preferred. Last month, BioWare announced that it would be making some changes to the the limitations that non-subscribers would an encounter in-game. Below are the changes coming. Increased Credit Cap Long gone are the days where you could buy a gallon of Bantha milk for five credits. Initially when SWTOR developed its Free-to-Play and Preferred models, a cap of 200,000 credits and 350,000 respectively seemed like a fair amount. Over the years, it’s become a simple truth that those credit amounts don’t buy what it used to though. As the game has grown, so has the economy. Taking this into account, SWTOR will be raising the credit cap of both Free-to-Play and Preferred members to 1,000,000 credits. … [Read more...] about Is Star Wars: The Old Republic’s F2P Changes Good or Bad?

Star Wars: The Old Republic announced this week that July's 5.10.4 update will improve the free to play experience. The 3 most notable changes are the following: Credit cap for free to play users (and preferred) will be increased to 1,000,000 (up from 200,000 and 350,000). Both free to play and preferred users will get an additional quickbar. (Free to play is now 3, Preferred is now 5). Both free to play and preferred players will gain access to quick travel and medical probes. I suspect Bioware is relaxing the game's free to play restrictions to combat a declining playerbase. PSYCH REPORT #3921-CMA6FILED BY: Medical Droid R33 RE: Cipher Agent Jaenneh Kerrel/designation Cipher NineEVALUATION DATE/TIME: 3657 BBY, 1922 hours The past several weeks have been something of a strain, I’ll be the first to admit. The pressures of the job are to be expected, but having to contend with the apparent assassination of a Dark Council member was… not a scenario I had fully planned for. Still, I understood that I had to be at my best, and all things considered, I believe I had taken the best course of action when I think back on the events leading up to today. I have no regrets. That, of course, is the broad-strokes assessment. Looking inward, I’m certain there were perhaps one or two things I could have done better. Chief among those is handling the confrontation with Darth Jadus. In my defense, being in the presence of a Sith Lord does not lead one to deep levels of rational thought, especially when their very physical being incites feelings of terror … [Read more...] about Choose My Adventure: A debriefing for Star Wars The Old Republic
Play SWTOR for freeSince the server merges, the Star Forge server has unofficially become the roleplay server for Star Wars: The Old Republic. And roleplaying’s fight to remain a relevant way to enjoy this MMORPG has never been tougher. Roleplayers, if nothing else, are resilient. We are still in the game and attempting to find our place in this world where there is little support for our gameplay style from the developers. Some of you might remember the late ’80s, but for those who don’t that was a period of time when the only thing keeping Star Wars alive were the RPGs. Timothy Zahn would not pen Heir to the Empire until 1991, the best video game we had was arcade-only made in ’83, and The Phantom Menace was well over a decade away. This was the period of time that the keeper-of-canon Pablo Hidalgo started his quest to become a part of the Lucasfilm family. It was the time when only two things were keeping the Star Wars alive: the Kenner toys and West End … [Read more...] about Hyperspace Beacon: The sorry state of roleplay in Star Wars: The Old Republic
