cRPG Tower of Time has released a major content drop this past week with the introduction of two new game modes adding 60+ hours to the currently available experience. Developed by the small 10-man team over at Event Horizon, Tower of Time introduces a new mode RPGlite, that immediately opens all seven playable characters and challenges players to see how far they can get before all champions perish to the growing mob of monsters. The second mode, Permadeath, is exactly what it sounds like. Players earn points from each battle that can be compared on the game’s leaderboards, but once a champion dies they are gone forever. You’ll need to finish Tower of Time in order to try these modes out. MMO Fallout checked out Tower of Time in early access and found it to be an enjoyable RPG. Tower of Time is hoping to continue the legacy of games like Baldur’s Gate and so far my time with the early access version has proven it a worthy successor. It strikes me as exactly the kind of title that hardcore RPG enthusiasts would be happy to get their hands on, the combination of strategic gameplay, stat building, and a so far compelling story that’ll have you up until two in the morning trying to figure out the best builds for your characters. In short, this game is pretty fun, and it’s also tough as hell. Rather than trying to go over every aspect of the game in this preview, I want to discuss the meat and potatoes of Tower of Time, that being its combat encounters. I find myself rather impressed by the fact that a game where you’re not directly controlling your characters requires as much attention to be paid as this game does. While you don’t control your character’s standard attacks, you do direct them around the field of combat and … [Read more...] about Early Access: Tower Of Time Hands On Impressions
Earlier this week, Redditor maxpower888 started an epic thread on the /r/mmorpg sub asking everyone to chime in and name his or her top five MMORPGs of all time. I thought it was a nifty thread to skim to see how many times the same games kept popping up (and the same games turned up in combination with each other). “You can tell how old people are by their lists,” one gamer objected, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true! So for this week’s Overthinking, we’re going to join in the fun, then explain our choices and puzzle out what those choices say about us — don’t forget to click the entries to expand them for explanations! You should do the same down in the comments! Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Don’t forget to click each one for an explanation! #1: Asheron's CallI still think this is the game our genre needs to strive to return to, but in a modern way. Monthly updates with content. Developer lead but player controlled story … [Read more...] about Massively Overthinking: Our five favorite MMORPGs of all time
Though I’ve been away from Second Life for about 3-4 years, I still keep up with a number of blogs. So I knew about the whole SL Bento project going on while I was gone… I just didn’t know exactly what it meant. This turned out to be one of the most exciting parts of returning to SL. So, if you go to the join SL page, you will see a number of Bento avatars you can choose from to start with. And if you think these look like this: …You just might be surprised at how far avatar technology in SL has come. I was. So what exactly is Bento and why is it amazing? I’ll let the somewhat cheesy SL video explain the magic of what they’ve done here. Then I’ll show you how it’s transformed my own avatar. The Bento Effect The incredible thing about Bento is that the sliders within SL can change the mesh shape you’re wearing. So, you have the power to sculpt your own mesh within SL once you buy a Bento piece. Not only that, but the Bento … [Read more...] about Second Life: Bento is Pure Magic!
