After about ten weeks on the PTR we finally 8.2 Rise of Azshara went live, and we’ve been able to take a far more comprehensive look into it. Though I’ve been participating the PTR the whole time there are a few things which surprised me in the live version (since everything wasn’t completely implemented before I stopped playing about a week before the patch). Let’s look at where 8.2 gets things right and where things are either a miss or just not quite right. There will be some spoilers because the story is a big part of this patch. Now that you’ve been warned let’s start with what’s right about 8.2. advertisement This first aspect which is right is the first storyline and that first cutscene which gets everyone into Nazjatar. I hadn’t seen it before launch, so all I knew was the Alliance is chasing the Horde ships who are headed out to the middle of the ocean because of reasons. Then Azshara does something which opens a … [Read more...] about World of Warcraft 8.2 is Here and It’s….OK?

Betrayal. Incursion. Prophecy. Breach. Talisman. Nemesis. Ambush. Instead of words of the day, Path of Exile has words of the league. And with so many more words in the English Language, I can’t see Grinding Gear Games slowing down any time soon! This quarter’s word is Synthesis. Now the question is, what does it mean and when does it arrive? To find out, I sat down and chatted with Producer Chris Wilson about the details of this new league – and I also got a few details of what lay beyond! Synthesis in a synopsis: Helping the new NPC Cavas regain his memories by building a game board of new world areas to explore and plunder. For a more intricate answer, keep reading. This new challenge league launches on PC on march 8th, with XBox One following on March 11th. The PlayStation 4’s launch will be in mid-March (apparently, it’s genuinely difficulty to get things certified over Christmas!). A glimpse at 2019 Before delving into the upcoming content of the … [Read more...] about Seek memories in Path of Exile’s newly announced Synthesis league beginning March 8
It’s the most wonderful time of the yearWith radios playingand ghost that are slaying the ones who come nearIt’s the most wonderful time of the year Ya’ll can get excited over your joyous winter holidays, but this — this is my favorite season. And to learn that more of the amazing Samhain goodness that we know and love from The Secret World made it into Secret World Legends this year had me squealing with fiendish delight! I cannot tell you how happy that one little tweet teasing the return of the radios made me! It was… music to my ears. What am I chattering on about? Why, the return of The Broadcast. This old-school radio program mission was the third Samhain event to come to TSW, and continued the trend of each year’s event getting successively more phenomenal. It joins 2017’s The Meowling (here’s the guide). Sadly, year number two — the Spooky Stories — seems to still be MIA from SWL, as are Halloween’s four and … [Read more...] about Chaos Theory: Secret World Legend’s 2018 Samhain is music to my ears
If you hang in any Discord channels I’m in, or Twitch streams, or any other social media, you will at some point or another hear me refer to games that have “All flash, and no bang”. As far as I’m concerned this refers to probably 80% of “AAA” titles these days. These games have beautiful visuals and stunning graphics, but otherwise lack any real substance. Trite stories, tired mechanics, and just generally no long term desirability to play, can all lead to the feeling that you got mugged by a game developer in a dark game store back room. Then along comes a game where you do a double take and rub your eyes. No way, the graphics on this game couldn’t be THIS bad, could they? I mean, these take me back to Asheron’s Call, or Everquest. Maybe as late as DAoC if I really squint my eyes. It’s impossible this game is worth the 40 dollar Steam price tag. Isn’t it? If the game you’re talking about is Project: Gorgon, then no, … [Read more...] about Project Gorgon: Early Access Preview
Even though I am playing playing much of it this very moment… Destiny holds an extremely special place in my heart. I love this game and I love what it has become over the course of the two expansions… and multiple content patches. They promised a setting as deep and rich and Star Wars, and while a lot of people will disagree with me… I feel that they ultimately delivered on that. The problem however is that they did not deliver in a contiguous story that was easy to learn. Instead they sprinkled the game with environmental storytelling and nuggets of information that the faithful had to gather up and piece together to learn what was happening in the world. Personally this made me want to know more about the world because each time I uncovered a truth it was like discovering another piece that fit into a giant puzzle I was trying to assemble in my head. For many others however… including the vast majority of my … [Read more...] about Destiny 2 Hopes
