I think it’s fair to say that EVE Online developer CCP Games hasn’t had much success when it comes to avatar-based gameplay. The studio’s first attempt at a first person shooter with DUST 514 launched to a resounding thud as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and the expansion that added avatar-based gameplay to EVE itself caused mass in-game riots. Things seemed to be getting back on track about two years ago when CCP showed off a prototype of a new PC-based EVE Online FPS codenamed Project Nova, but now it too seems to be struggling. After launching a live playable demo of Project Nova at EVE Vegas 2018 and opening signups for an impending alpha test, last week CCP indefinitely suspended the project. Having played it at the event, I can’t say that it’s the wrong decision. I found Nova to be a competent first person shooter with some interesting mechanics and satisfying minute-to-minute gameplay, but that’s not enough. It ultimately needs some kind of … [Read more...] about EVE Evolved: How could Project Nova live up to its true potential?

Also added was the “Snowflake Winter Festival Costume” to the Lumena Shop for 2600 Lumena. Day 11 of “Blogging 101” asked me to take a daily prompt and make it fit to my blog’s content. The first prompt was boring as I had more or less just written about it anyway. I opted for the “try another” option and was shown a prompt from March 2015. If you could be a “fly on the wall” anywhere and at any time in history, where and when would you choose? This is a very nice question which, of course, I will turn into a game-related one. Let’s see… if I could be a fly in a development studio, which one would it be – and which department. They don’t all make games in their basements, after all. :p I would probably choose ArenaNet, because they are the most secretive of them all. I would try not to look over the shoulders of the ones working on the living story, though. I don’t want to spoil that for me! But I think I’d fly around trying to find out whether anybody is currently working on SAB or anything other … [Read more...] about Blogging 101: A little fly on the wall…
Play Fortnite NowFortnite’s 5.10 update is live today with yet more uber weapons and the return of the jetpack in the new limited time mode dubbed Fly Explosives. “BOOM! The new Fly Explosives Limited Time Mode is here and it’s a blast for the whole squad. Use Jetpacks to fly above your foes and rain down in this explosives only game mode,” says Epic. The downside, of course, is that some of the de facto building nerfs of the last big patch, which have players grumping over the loss of the game’s uniqueness, are still in play. Epic did reduce the potency of one of the weapons causing grief, however – that’d be the P90 that made defensive structures crumble to dust and made players wonder why they bothered building them in the first place. And if you’re keeping an eye out for the Android version? Well, it’s possible it’ll be a Samsung exclusive on the Galaxy Note 9 for a month. My Pixel 2 XL-toting self is not impressed by this … [Read more...] about Fortnite’s Fly Explosives mode is live for you jetpack and pew pew junkies
