As the Fourth Age begins, Turbine Entertainment retreats into the east where it will continue to be diminished. The studio that formerly brought us MMOs such as Asheron’s Call, Dungeons and Dragons Online, and Lord of the Rings Online is being enveloped even further into parent company Warner Bros. So wave farewell to the familiar turbine jet logo because Turbine is no more; the studio is now being officially called WB Games Boston. Rolls right off the tongue, doesn’t it? The switchover appeared to have happened yesterday according to the changing of the profile guard on Facebook. Formerly an independent studio, Turbine Entertainment was acquired by Warner Bros. back in 2010. Following the failure of MOBA Infinite Crisis, the studio divested itself of all MMOs in late 2016. DDO and LOTRO went to the newly formed Standing Stone Games (itself made up of former Turbine devs), while Asheron’s Call and its sequel were shuttered. … [Read more...] about Original LOTRO and DDO creator Turbine Entertainment changes its name to WB Games Boston

UX has a long history… going back way beyond the digital era. Restaurants have always been concerned about User Experience, and so have museums and hotels. Interacting with your site/app should be pleasurable, easy, engaging, and efficient. That, in a nutshell, is ‘User Experience’ (UX). Tech changes at a lightning-fast pace. Every day, … [Read more...] about 12 Easy UX Improvements You Need to Know About

Sometimes it feels like the best information about MMOs comes out of small conventions devoted to specific games (like EVE Online, Final Fantasy XIV, and World of Warcraft, although that last one is arguably not small in the least). Yet there’s always a bunch of MMO stuff at the various booths just the same; the convention is just more often a time to reach out to players and press who may not follow MMOs studiously, so that tends to be the focus for presentation. But enough explaining the situation; let’s turn the microphone over to you, as it were. Is there anything about MMOs you hope to see at PAX East? A game or two that … [Read more...] about The Daily Grind: We’re headed to PAX East – what do you most want to see?
