Chaturday: But the Cash Shop Works Fantastically

I read a piece this past week questioning if the bad boy developer image is dead and boy do I sure hope so. For the most part, I believe that attaching names to games is going away, and I think the facts would back me up on that. Let’s be frank on one thing regarding Radical Heights: This game’s success or failure will ultimately have little to do with the public reception of Cliff Bleszinski. Are there a handful of people who are refusing to play Radical Heights because CliffyB called PC gamers pirates ten years ago? Yes, most likely. Is that number statistically significant? No. Not nearly as influential as the fact that Boss Key Productions decided to spend a whole five months in development before shoving the game onto the Steam store amidst a sea of other half-baked products. Radical Heights has the misfortune of existing as effectively a lesser Fortnite. Both games are free to play battle royale titles, both utilize graphics to make them accessible on lower end … [Read more...] about Chaturday: But the Cash Shop Works Fantastically

Guild Wars 2 overhauls its lockbox mechanics and adds gardening plots

Get Guild Wars 2 Path of FireWe don’t often cover cash shop updates for MMOs, and lockboxes are not our favorite thing, but Guild Wars 2’s cash shop and lockbox update today is worth noting all the same because of the lockbox changes and new mechanics going live. For starters, ArenaNet has patched in a new buyable in the cash shop called the Black Lion Garden Plot Deed. For 1000 gems ($12.50), you can add a garden plot to your home instance and grow harvestable plants from nodes akin to those purchaseable separately. Each plot allows four plants, and it appears you can purchase two plots. It sounds as if seeds will drop from nodes in the world as well. Good news for people who like to garden or those really into decking out their home instances, but maybe a steep price for a couple of nodes in a not-housing-system. Perhaps more importantly, ArenaNet has redesigned (again) some of the features of the lockbox system itself, perhaps in part due to ongoing criticism of … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 overhauls its lockbox mechanics and adds gardening plots

Heroes of the Storm: Changes Coming For Garden of Terror Map

Big changes are coming to one of the least favorite Heroes of the Storm maps, The Garden of Terror. To showcase the biggest changes coming, HotS “Steve” from the Battlegrounds team has posted a new vlog complete with gameplay action. The biggest changes: the map will no longer have a day / night cycle; seed nodes will spawn with mini-terrors guarding them; teams will defeat the mini-shamblers to secure the seed; the goal is to collect three seeds (similar to Cursed Hollow); once three seeds are collectected, three Garden Terros will spawn, one in each lane; Terrors use the Overgrowth ability to disable towns; Terrors have an AoE stomp effect to stun player characters; Terrors continue until destroyed or until the end of the match, whichever comes first For more information, please click here. … [Read more...] about Heroes of the Storm: Changes Coming For Garden of Terror Map

Trove teases gardening overhaul with new minipets and new growables

One of the upcoming sliced of Trove content on the way with the Geode part two is something every farmer should appreciate. No, not that kind of farmer; the other kind. We’re talking about the gardening system, which is apparently due not just for new plants and growables but a total revamp in general. Under the current gardening system, anybody with sufficient skill can plop down some seeds and the appropriate water and fertilizer, and then just return after the allotted time to harvest it (or admire the handiwork). It’s beyond basic, though it’s pretty fun for decorating your club worlds. But during last week’s Trion stream, the developers showed off a number of new plants, including some that attract allies – minipets – although it sounds like they might be fixed to the location. Some existing biomes that lack flora are getting new plants too, and some of the fruits and veggies that exist in the game but weren’t previously growable will be. … [Read more...] about Trove teases gardening overhaul with new minipets and new growables
