It got me thinking about how the episodic content had become part of the life cycle of Guild Wars 2. The original Living World run had a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ mentality to it, that each piece of that first evolving world is now, for the most part, unavailable to players. Some moments have returned in the form of Mai Trin and the Molten Bosses in Fractals, Guild Wars 2’s piecemeal endgame content. But some of the big set pieces like Battle For The Breach Maker or the Marionette fight are still stated by large swatches of the community as fact that it’s the best content and needs to be back in the game. If such a departure from the day to day of Guild Wars 2, something like Super Adventure Box, has lost its veneer then how will content that was inserted as part of an experimental narrative run have aged? … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Super Box Adventures of How I Learned to Love Content Updates

The Dynamic quest feature, however, is a double-edged sword. While it does add a unique element to the game and is definitely an innovation for MMORPG’s, automatically initiating quests usually has players fumbling around with absolutely no clue as to who they’re helping or why since they have no background story to build up on. This, in my opinion, ruins the experience and turns players into mindless zombies that take on a quest just because other people are doing it and they happen to be there. Dynamic quests also require players to be in the right place at the right time. Other players also need to be there to help out since soloing dynamic events more often than not results in constant death and frustration. Still, having dynamic quests is an overall positive because it allows players to gain experience and progress their own way. Don't like a particular dynamic quest? Skip it. Don't want to do these heart quests? Skip them. Players are free to complete the quests they … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Game Review
End game content is a subjective term for the Guild Wars 2 community and the gaming community at large. We tend to think of it as completion of the game’s ultimate challenges. In Final Fantasy 7, it’s well known Sephiroth, the final boss, wasn’t even the toughest opponent in the game. That honour fell to Ruby or Emerald Weapon. Both bosses are monstrously challenging even today, and provide a deeper level of challenge to the game that can’t be overcome by spamming Knights Of The Round and Mimic. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: The End(game)
For example, long ago, the entire class system was changed from allowing bits and pieces of different trait lines to be utilized for a single overarching build, to a system that pigeon holes you into 3 specific trait lines. This was compounded when new specializations were created in lieu of introducing new classes. Those specializations would eventually lock a player into a sub class, taking the place of an entire trait line. While some arguments could be made that the streamlining of these classes and specializations was for ease of use and balance, from my estimation, the prevalent train of thought by many is that these classes have obscured the balance entirely, and every change to right the ship has done as much harm as it has good. … [Read more...] about Is it Time for Guild Wars 3?
5. Don’t Expect Traditional MMORPG Quests One of the biggest changes players will feel when coming from other MMOs is the questing and PvE experience. As a new player coming out of your starter zone, you’ll obviously want to quest for XP. The thing is, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t offer the traditional questing experience. There isn’t a reliance to go speak to NPCs to ‘pick up’ quests, then return for rewards. In Tyria, there will be Tasks, or Gold Hearts found throughout every map. When you get close to one, the objectives are automatically added to your objective tracker and you can swap between them by moving between Tasks. Completing these are good for XP, Karma and coin, but don’t just do them religiously. The game also wants you to explore, take part in zone events and more. All of these activities gives you XP, so to be effective at leveling up, do all of them at your own leisure. … [Read more...] about Top 5 Guild Wars 2 New Player Tips 2019 – How To Be Effective In Guild Wars 2
