There’s also the Elegy armor which has can be upgraded to armor with some fancy glow effects. One nice thing about this armor is all the glowy bits can be dyed to whatever color you like. Some people had theorized this armor is new legendary gear but that is not the case. This is just new armor for players to use and, since it’s armor and not outfits, the parts of each set can be mixed and matched together. Lack of new armors is something which is often complained about so it’s particularly nice to see we are effectively getting six new sets with this story update. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Episode 4 Preview

Raymond Lukes, Gameplay Engineer: Mounts are a lot of work across a lot of disciplines. We’ve gotten better at understanding what it takes to do a mount at a base level, but each mount has unique properties and feel so each one has a fair amount of discovery and iteration that is necessary for the design. We generally start with a prototype where the basic functionality is proven out and a better understanding of the art needs are gathered. This is where we spend time figuring out what all we want the mount to do and what kind of a tool the mount is going to be. Using the Warclaw as an example, we prototyped a lot, taking the Griffon mount and removing flying, tweaking the speed to get the right feel, etc. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Developer Interview
And then it all goes tits up. Suddenly, Caithe pulls out the crystals from Aurene and she’s back on her feet. Literally, it’s a blink and you’ll miss it story beat. As we all predicted, Aurene eating Joko at the end of Long Live The Lich allowed her to transcend death and bring herself back into the story. In the second (of two) story missions that we get Braham explicitly states that while the Commander can die, Aurene can just resurrect herself and thereby is given the most impenetrable set of plot armour since GRRM’s wife told him Arya Stark was her favourite character. I don’t necessarily have an issue with Aurene coming back from the dead. But for it to be literally the first major story beat of the episode cheapens the fantastic finale of All Or Nothing. … [Read more...] about War Eternal: Guild Wars 2 Season 4 Finale
That said, all cores of the laptop’s Intel i5 6300HQ, even with boosting available, were still put under some continuous pressure when set to best appearance, and this was just while idling in Lion’s Arch. At a base clock of 2.3Ghz, we still found that this was consistent across all our systems. Processor utilization isn’t everything that we need to talk about when it comes to Guild Wars 2 but it is always going to be an obvious constraint, even in light activities. To show you just how egregious Guild Wars 2’s CPU hunger can be I dropped a toe into WvW, taking config 3 up against a zerg at best appearance and watch the CPU rocket up, maxing out on several occasions and FPS falling through the floor, despite a 1080 and data center grade internet connection that is simply unparalleled by most home PC standards. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Is Slow…. Birthday Card—Awards 5,000 karma when consumed. Victorious Dye Kit—Choose an account-bound exclusive dye. Two Black Lion Statuettes—Redeemable for a variety of gem store items. Five Teleport to Friend Tokens—Use to teleport to a party member’s location. Unfortunately, not the best of gifts but at least they’re free. 5K karma is nothing at the late game for Guild Wars 2, but everything else is decent if you have a use for them. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Anniversary 2019 Gift Guide
