Elisabeth Cardy: We built Guild Wars 2 with the idea in mind that it should be good to see other players. We regularly see the success of that in the stories that we hear from guilds, couples, and BFFs about their in-game and out of game adventures. Hearing stories like these is incredible rewarding and heartwarming and we wanted to share some of that joy with the world! … [Read more...] about Arenanet Talks: Guild Wars 2 Friend/Ship Campaign

The Dynamic quest feature, however, is a double-edged sword. While it does add a unique element to the game and is definitely an innovation for MMORPG’s, automatically initiating quests usually has players fumbling around with absolutely no clue as to who they’re helping or why since they have no background story to build up on. This, in my opinion, ruins the experience and turns players into mindless zombies that take on a quest just because other people are doing it and they happen to be there. Dynamic quests also require players to be in the right place at the right time. Other players also need to be there to help out since soloing dynamic events more often than not results in constant death and frustration. Still, having dynamic quests is an overall positive because it allows players to gain experience and progress their own way. Don't like a particular dynamic quest? Skip it. It has been widely accepted, albeit begrudgingly, that as companies looked for ways to make monetization more enticing, we the gamers have often been at a loss when it comes to directing how these companies actually do it. Enter, the age of the Loot Box. In their simplest form they are miniature RNG loot containers, but in their most devious form they are Pay to Play slot machines with deceiving rewards. Guild Wars 2 has implemented these loot boxes in the form of Black Lion Chests for a very long time, and with loot boxes under the microscope both by gamers and governments alike, is it time that we say goodbye to Black Lion Chests for good? … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2
The idea that Guild Wars’ world of Tyria is a living, breathing, fluctuating world is fantastic. Path of Fire practically came out of nowhere. We had about a month or so to get ready before we began our hunt for Balthazar, the God of War. I know a lot of people who fell off in Heart of Thorns, and they asked if they had to complete it first. That’s one of the big drawbacks to story-driven titles like Final Fantasy XIV, where you cannot do the new content without first doing old content. The good news, for me and others, is that not only do you not have to complete the Heart of Thorns content, you don’t even have to own Heart of Thorns at all! You can just jump right into Path of Fire. It also comes with a level 80 boost, so you can leap directly into the fray with a max-level character. It will come with level 80 gear also, but my stats weren’t all that ideal on my Necromancer. It worked, though. After all, ArenaNet’s dedication to “no level cap … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire Review
