Elisabeth Cardy: When we first started brainstorming around this campaign, it was based on stories we’d heard of people who had met their significant other in game, but we really wanted to recognize that it’s not just romantic relationships that can have a deep impact on our lives. To that end, we were looking for a title that encompassed relationships of all sorts. Especially in English, the word “relationship” can have some hefty connotations of romance, so it didn’t feel right on its own. “Shipping” is a fandom term that has to do with primarily romantic relationships (“ships”), so when we were taking some early notes, we started using “Friend/Ships” as a shorthand to kind of indicate both platonic and romantic relationships, and the whole team liked it so much that when it came time to think of the final title for the campaign, we all decided that we wanted to keep this one around. … [Read more...] about Arenanet Talks: Guild Wars 2 Friend/Ship Campaign

Having trouble picking a guild to join? In guild wars 2 you can join up to 5 at once! You pick one as your “active” guild that you represent, but are able to talk in the chat rooms of any guild you are in, whether you are representing them or not. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Is It The Best MMORPG Social Experience?
The Dynamic quest feature, however, is a double-edged sword. While it does add a unique element to the game and is definitely an innovation for MMORPG’s, automatically initiating quests usually has players fumbling around with absolutely no clue as to who they’re helping or why since they have no background story to build up on. This, in my opinion, ruins the experience and turns players into mindless zombies that take on a quest just because other people are doing it and they happen to be there. Dynamic quests also require players to be in the right place at the right time. Other players also need to be there to help out since soloing dynamic events more often than not results in constant death and frustration. Still, having dynamic quests is an overall positive because it allows players to gain experience and progress their own way. Don't like a particular dynamic quest? Skip it. Don't want to do these heart quests? Skip them. Players are free to complete the quests they … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2 Game Review
When parsed out like this, the costs of what you get to what you spend in terms of Black Lion Chest Keys is fairly staggering. As a whole though, the actual prices and costs are next to meaningless. For example, I have a stack of revive orbs in my inventory I’ve never used. I didn’t even count the Teleport to a Friend in my gem cost simply because you can’t buy them at the Black Lion Trading Company anymore, and I have dozens of them just taking up space in my bank. The commemorative coins are essentially just 1 gold each, and the materials, which make up the majority of what I received, are frivolous, and I don’t believe anyone opens a black lion chest hoping for these “rare” materials when they dole out free Laurels by the dozens quite often, and heavy crafting bags only cost 1 laurel per bag. … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire brings us back to the Crystal Desert from the original Guild Wars, so it’s nice to see this familiar area looking even more gorgeous than before. That’s one thing I can definitely say about Guild Wars 2’s maps: they are absolutely gigantic compared to their predecessors, and the best part of that? They don’t feel empty! There’s so much to see and do, it can be a bit overwhelming. And I know it says “Desert”, but it’s not all brown and sand either. You’ve got ice, snow and so much more. There’s tons of exploration and new biomes to check out. However, some of the Vistas and Heroic Mastery challenges can be incredibly, horribly hard to find, not being able to zoom in very far to the map. Sure, the map will point out if it’s “above” or “below” where you presently are, but that’s not as helpful as you might think. That leads me to the next thought: jumping puzzles are … [Read more...] about Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire Review
