There’s a rather popular quote in military circles that goes “no plan survives contact with the enemy.” This quote springs to my mind as I recount my latest Star Citizen escapade as chosen by you fine folks because my attempt to make money via Jumptown drug running went absolutely haywire. That said, I legitimately ended up having possibly more fun participating in this comedy of errors than I would have if things had gone to plan. Now when I say “plan,” I absolutely mean plan; my benefactor Ichi had quite literally sent me a tactical breakdown of the mission, replete with information about the location, suggested strategies, and some choices on how to manage the specifics of trading any money we earned. Since I’ve never navigated to Jumptown before, I suggested we do a dry run first to get acclimated to where it is. With that decided, we climbed aboard Ichi’s Freelancer and set a course. As first attempts go, things went pretty well overall. … [Read more...] about Choose My Adventure: I am not good at drug running in Star Citizen

I’m getting old. Well, older. Probably most of us are, and that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone else. I’m actually OK with the idea of aging as long as I stay active and productive, although I don’t think I have to rejoice over my body giving out in little ways. One of these ways is my eyes, of which I’m starting to get more protective. I’m wearing glasses more now than I used to, and at night I’ve been putting on these blue light filter deals to reduce eye strain and help my body wind down before bed. But LOTRO isn’t helping things very much, because at times — usually very late — I’m straining to clearly read the quest text in the mission boxes. It’s just such a small font with not the best contrast — and there is absolutely no way to scale it up (unlike, say, the chat box font or other UI elements). I did some research into this, and the only workaround that I saw was to reduce your resolution so that … [Read more...] about LOTRO: Fashion and font size
Perfect World Entertainment has announced with today’s update that multiple items have been removed from the Zen store in Neverwinter. We were first informed of this update back in October, with the publisher revealing that cosmetic fashions and dyes would be removed in an effort to make trade bars more useful. As part of a rolling set of updates, mounts from previous lockboxes will be added to the trade bar store, and epic versions will be added to the store. Trade bars are obtained from lockboxes. Well that is certainly one way to fill up the comments section with tons of screenshots: asking all of you to show of your best and boldest fashion! We had a virtual fashion show last week in the One Shots comments, and here are my personal favorites of the bunch (although most all were tremendous). First up is UpayaBlossom, who brings some springtime cheer into the dour setting of Secret World Legends. “Oooh… fashion show? I was born ready for this!” she wrote. Here’s a weird thought. What if all of the enemies in video games were adorable people and we played as the hideous monsters? What kind of fashion would we sport then? Rafael12104 had a bunch of outfits from Blade and Soul (of course), but I did like this one: “My Force Master Taliee shows off her fashion sense. She is wearing a magnificent outfit I call the Pink Trove (from the treasure trove). The dress is a perfect fit for days out on the sunny and scenic Soulstone Plains.” And what … [Read more...] about One Shots: Fashion patrol coming your way!
“Glamour is end game,” is a common joke among FFXIV players. So, while we got a new Glamour Dresser (Commode) this patch, we also got a new mini-game at the Gold Saucer called Fashion Report! So once you’ve unlocked the new mini-game through a very short quest in the Gold Saucer, you can talk to Masked Rose to see what this week’s fashion requirements are (you can also view this from your Timers menu). You get a little blank mannequin that shows you the overall theme, which items you’re being judged on, and a hint as to what the correct items are to place in those slots. That’s it. That’s all you have to go on. Now, a few hints we’ve discovered: You must have a piece of gear in all slots, even the ones that don’t have hints. If you don’t, your score will be significantly lower. It doesn’t matter what’s in those slots, just that there’s something there. Different pieces of glamour have different ratings … [Read more...] about FFXIV: Fashion Report Mini-Game
