Conan Exiles Is Heading East: Japan, Korea and More

Conan Exiles Is Heading East: Japan, Korea and More Funcom is excited to announce that Conan Exiles, the studio’s open world survival game launching on May 8th, will be receiving a broad, localized release in several Asian territories. The company is teaming up with Spike Chunsoft to release Conan Exiles both digitally and in retail across Japan. Funcom is also joining forces with H2 Interactive to release Conan Exiles digitally and through retail stores in Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. “ Conan Exiles is one of our most international releases ever and that can only be achieved with strong, local partners,” says Funcom CEO Rui Casais. “We are both honored and excited to be working with experienced publishers of this caliber. Both Spike Chunsoft and H2 Interactive have a long history of successfully bringing games to market in their territories.” H2 Interactive will be releasing the … [Read more...] about Conan Exiles Is Heading East: Japan, Korea and More

First Impressions: Struggling to survive in Conan Exiles

I am no stranger to covering survival sandboxes for Massively OP. I wrestled with dinosaurs before ARK: Survival Evolved was a thing. I got kidnapped and tried to drown myself in a puddle, spent days building a glorified shack before hackers or server admins could destroy them, and got a better understanding of what it’s like to be an Asian gamer thanks to Valve’s social experiment. There have been some good memories for sure, but the cancelled games, broken promises, and fact that most of the genre is in an infinite non-launch state are just some of the reasons I’ve been losing faith in online, multiplayer survival games. I love the idea of PvP allowing for meaningful social gameplay, but in reality, I mostly experience only ganking. But without PvP, I generally get so bored of PvE that I run into the arms of a (J)RPG so I can get drama and permadeath in a finished product, often without kids screaming at me to stop moving and just die. But here I … [Read more...] about First Impressions: Struggling to survive in Conan Exiles

MMO Week in Review: Bless, Daybreak, Conan Exiles, and Wild West Online (Mar 13, 2018)

Support Massively OP on PatreonWere you too busy gaming this week to pay attention to MMO news? Get caught up every Sunday evening with Massively Overpowered’s Week in Review! Gotta love those weeks when there are so many huge stories I can’t decide what to feature here and just feature them all! Conan Exiles launched this week, with lots of praise – except for Funcom’s disastrous handling of PvE-conflict servers. Bless Online shocked its community by springing optional subscriptions just a few weeks ahead of launch and not exactly dazzling press previewers. Wild West Online blundered onward into its ill-advised formal launch from early access, in spite of criticism over its incomplete state (and lack of female toons). And just to cap it all off, the Daybreak/Columbus Nova/Renova mess took a bizarre turn into the tawdriest corners of political intrigue. What a week! I need a drink. Read on for the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions. THIS … [Read more...] about MMO Week in Review: Bless, Daybreak, Conan Exiles, and Wild West Online (Mar 13, 2018)

Returning to Conan Exiles: Praise for Funcom’s progress on PvE and PvP

As some of you may remember, I wasn’t terribly impressed with Conan Exiles when it first went into Early Access last year. It wasn’t exactly that the game was rough, but just more of the same: free-for-all PvP with people constantly zerg killing each other, now with slavery and some dragons! But Funcom has done a lot to flesh out the game since then. My GDC look at the game gave me hope, and although the PvE conflict switcharoo is really upsetting, I actually have to say that, mechanically, Funcom has won me over. While I normally track my playtime, I have to admit that I spent far too much time playing Exiles. Sadly, I didn’t get to experience clans, god summoning, purges, teleportation, massive battles, or slavery, but it wasn’t from a lack of trying. In fact, Conan Exiles should give all of us, PvE players included, a reason to pay more attention to the survival genre. Restarting in Conan’s world Logging back … [Read more...] about Returning to Conan Exiles: Praise for Funcom’s progress on PvE and PvP

Hands-on with Conan Exiles’ launch build: Farming, frolicking in the swamp, and other feature fun

The early access days of Conan Exiles are coming to a close. In less than a month, the survival sandbox will launch. At that time players will get to explore two new regions, experience the new combat, farm, dive into two new dungeons, worship a new god, and summon her avatar on the live servers. But luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait! I joined Creative Director Joel Bylos in the game for few hours of hands-on experience with the new features, then got to keep playing for the evening. After a farming demonstration and a quick tour of the volcano, I got to witness a Purge, watch the brand-new starter cinematic, wander around the swamp and climb into treehouses, participate in a siege, look over the new attributes and perks, parade around in new armor, and test out the new combat with all the weapon types. My impressions in a nutshell? Most of the additions really up the fun factor and improve the game (the jury is still out on the eating-to-heal mechanic). I’m pretty … [Read more...] about Hands-on with Conan Exiles’ launch build: Farming, frolicking in the swamp, and other feature fun
