MapleStory 2 is finally here, released globally after three years since its arrival in Korea. Nexon has pulled out all the stops to ensure a smooth launch for global gamers and now the game is live on both the Nexon launcher and Steam. What is MapleStory 2? It’s a free to play MMORPG – the second in the Maple series – and it features cute cartoony characters in a pretty large anime fantasy world. You pick one of 9 classes to adventure with, using the game’s ARPG style hack and slash combat that feels really good. It’s fair to say that MapleStory always did appeal to an audience that was into a very specific look and feel. If chibi anime designs, frantic big-number combat, and goofy storylines were your thing, then you have more than your fill here. I don’t have a lot of MapleStory 1 experience, so I have no real expectations or preconceived notions about MapleStory. I’ve played some MapleStory, but the 2D side-scrolling MMO did not really catch on with me. I’ve spent the past week or so really digging deep in MapleStory 2 though, as we’re in the middle of the current Closed Beta testing period and I have to say, that so far, I have absolutely loved it. MapleStory 2 is a 3D MMORPG set in the MapleStory universe, where you pick one of eight fantasy classes (or seven and Heavy Gunner) and explore an adorable world absolutely stuffed to the gills with content. This is a world in peril, despite being incredibly cute, and it’s up to you to set out and set things right, going on adventures, meeting new people, and undertaking dangerous battles. With closed beta invites already being sent out for MapleStory 2’s closed beta next month, more and more people are wondering what exactly we have to look forward to. MapleStory 2 is a free to play, 3D MMORPG that utilizes an entirely new graphical system, showcasing beautifully bright, vibrant environments to traverse and explore. MapleStory 2 has the same fun, fast action combat that players remember from the original, with noticable improvements made to utilize the new 3D engine. I’ve talked about Nexon in the past.
