As some of you may already know, Blade and Soul was built on Unreal Engine 3 and that engine has long been left in the dust since the introduction of Unreal Engine 4 in late 2014. Fortunately for Blade and Soul fans, NCSoft is pushing to get transition the game to Unreal 4 and with that should come some sweet graphical updates and smoother gameplay. Take a look at the preview video released for the Korean version of the game: There's no release schedule for the Unreal engine update just yet, but I suspect it should be out by the end of the year for the Korean version (and hopefully the NA one). The update will also add some other fun stuff like fishing. FacebookTwitterReddit Related … [Read more...] about NCSoft Previews Blade and Soul’s Unreal Engine 4 Transition
South Korean gaming giant NCSoft reported their Q1 2018 earnings today with total revenue coming in at 475,159M KRW ($444M USD), down 11% quarter over quarter and up 98% year over year. As with their previous earnings reports, take a look at sales by game: Despite a slight dip from last quarter, mobile games continued to dominate, bringing in over half of the company's total revenues. Every other game saw a slight dip as well with the exception of Aion which saw a big jump which NCSoft attributed to a "change in monetization scheme" (sounds like they upped the p2w). In their investor call with analysts, NCSoft acknowledged that Blade and Soul 2 for mobile was delayed into 2019 after failing to meet expectations. The entire game will be getting redesigned and will be developed by an entirely new team (basically same deal as Lineage Eternal). Project TL on the other hand seems to be on track for a release sometime next year. South Korea remains the #1 region for NCSoft with over 70% of … [Read more...] about NCSoft Reports Q1 2018 Earnings, Aion Revenue Up, GW2 and B&S Down
During the quarterly financial call earlier today, NCsoft confirmed that Blade & Soul II will be delayed into 2019, with Lineage 2M possible launching first in the same year. First teased in November last year, Blade & Soul II was originally scheduled to launch this year as a mobile MMORPG, but management decided it did not meet expectations as a MMORPG title, hence the delay. Major redesigns and a new team were mentioned for the overhaul. Also, Project TL is said to be on schedule, with internal assessment being very positive and the new team working together very well. The game itself was an overhaul from Lineage Eternal, and it is scheduled for Closed Beta in South Korea later this year. An official launch is “definitely” happening next year, claims NCsoft. The Korean developer is also not bothered by the surge of battle royale games, insisting it is focusing on MMORPG titles. … [Read more...] about – NCsoft delays mobile MMORPG to 2019
NCsoft’s first quarter 2018 financial results are in, and it’s… kinda OK? Guild Wars 2 saw a big drop-off, though that’s to be expected since the previous quarter saw revenues from Path of Fire. “GW2 sales dropped 32% QOQ but increased 66% YOY, as some of the 2nd expansion pack effect was included,” NCsoft notes. Blade & Soul continues to perform well QOQ, though it’s lost a quarter of its revenue YOY, and Aion revenues surged, NCsoft says, “fueled by the change in the monetization scheme.” Lineage itself at one time seemed to drive the company all by itself, but it’s down QOQ and YOY too. So is the company’s mobile games branch, which was riding high on Lineage M last year but is now “stabilizing” at what one might assume is a more realistic number (which is still higher than the five big MMORPGs combined). As MMO Culture reports, the investor call itself admitted that Blade & Soul II for mobile has … [Read more...] about Revenues for all NCsoft MMORPGs are down in Q1 2018 except… Aion?
NCsoft recently release a “Vision Preview” trailer, highlighting what the development team is preparing for the hit Asian fantasy MMORPG, Blade & Soul. There is currently no actual timeline set, and we suppose it is still in the early days, but Blade & Soul will indeed be getting an upgrade from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 4. Depending on the manpower, this could take up to years to implement. Of course, with the engine upgrade, players can expect hugely improved game graphics with the usage of physically based rendering (PBR). Other than just the change from Unreal Engine 3 to Unreal Engine 4, NCsoft is preparing new life content to Blade & Soul. These functions include gathering functions and fishing, with a view on a more social and community-based experience as well. Changes are also being planned for Mushin, such as physical animations, a new role in the main storyline, and new sound effects. Artwork based on the mysterious Divine Realm was also … [Read more...] about – NCsoft previews upgrade to Unreal Engine 4 for Asian fantasy MMORPG
