A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a column about my return to Star Wars Galaxies on the Legends server, an NGE emulator for the long-gone but still beloved sandbox. And some of our commenters flipped out. The NGE was an abomination, they said. Why would you want to play any version of that!? Classic forever! Welp, get your nostalgia back on because yet another SWG emu – I told you there were dozens! – is gearing up for a big update, complete with a trailer. Empire in Flames is the name of this one, and it’s a custom server that’s been running for over a year, with a blend of NGE and pre-CU mechanics, a custom profession system, an anti-urban-sprawl housing system, a ton of new races, and a post-Endor setting. The update centers on a rebuilt Galactic Civil War, which vets will recall was the lore-and-score backbone of the TEF-based PvP system. This version includes planetary political systems and planetary invasions “coming soon.” “GCW battles are … [Read more...] about Star Wars Galaxies emulator Empire in Flames is launching its post-Endor PvP system
The hopes, dreams, and (most importantly) finances of Daybreak go with H1Z1 as it officially launches on PlayStation 4 this August 7th. The original battle royale title did really well for itself when it went into a free-to-play early access on the console, racking up over 10 million players by the end of last month. How high will it go when it releases for good? We shall see! Daybreak is going to do all it can to keep the excitement and engagement factor high with a content-filled Day One patch. The studio is adding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher and a SOCOM sniper rifle to the arsenal, along with the ARV personnel carrier that can truck around up to five people. There are a few ways that Daybreak is hoping to profit off of the launch. H1Z1’s PS4 launch will kick off the first battle pass season (which retails for $5.49) and sell a Viper starting bundle and Hardline deluxe bundle for $4.99 and $34.99, respectively. You might think that gathering a bunch of Fortnite players in one spot to watch a rocket launch would lead to a whole lot of players shooting one another and very little actual watching of said rocket launch. But according to Polygon, players were actually being polite and watching as everything went down. After all, there’s time to go back to royale battling after the one-time server event took place, right? No one’s going anywhere. There’s a video just below showing what the event looked like, along with some screenshots of the launch and what took place. It’s not totally clear what happened, but players will likely find out more once the game’s next seasons starts up on July 12th. We can only imagine the burst of violence on the site right after the launch. Try to hold back your shock: Sci-fi-dino-themed survival sandbox ARK Survival Evolved is really, truly, launching today, so put all those delay gripes and eternal early access jokes back in the grudge box. As of this morning, Studio Wildcard says the Xbox One download is up and running, while PS4 is lagging a few hours behind. Do remember that even on Steam, a newbie will be paying just shy of 60 bucks for the whole bundle. We’ve got a read on the new servers too: “For ARK’s launch, we plan on providing new Official Servers for the following games mode: Regular/Vanilla, Non-TEK, Primitive+, Hardcore, Isolated Clusters, NoTaming, Extinction Servers and ORP. With the bulk of the servers being focused on the vanilla game mode (Both PVP and PVE), and smaller amounts of niche servers which could be increased based on player demand. The primitive game mode will be removed in favour of the Non-TEK Tier Servers.” Want more ARK goodness? We’ll be chatting … [Read more...] about ARK Survival Evolved launches today; get caught up here with the trailer and roundup!
