Brad McQuaid’s MMO Pantheon has snapped up Trion’s Linda ‘Brasse’ Carlson

Did you wonder where Linda “Brasse” Carlson was going to end up post-Trion Worlds’ implosion? Because you had to know she’d end up somewhere; she’s a force of nature in the MMO realm. Turns out she’s landed at Visionary Realms working on Pantheon. “In an extraordinary tale of dragons and dwarves, we welcome Linda ‘The Brasse’ Carlson to the Pantheon team,” the game’s latest newsletter says. “Linda is no stranger to MMOs, having been the Director of Community Relations at SOE, Daybreak and most recently Trion Worlds. She is currently consulting Visionary Realms on Community Relations so expect to see her around a bit and be sure to say hello! We are very excited to have her and we are sure many of you will recognize her from some of your favorite games too.” There’s much more to the newsletter, of course, including the news that more team members are being picked up “due to recent events a lot more … [Read more...] about Brad McQuaid’s MMO Pantheon has snapped up Trion’s Linda ‘Brasse’ Carlson

Tarnished Hope

Yesterday was a bit of a trying day for me personally.   I’ve personally been bought into this notion that Mastodon provided a kinder gentler alternative to Twitter, but yesterday largely proved that notion completely wrong.  The Fediverse has been the welcome home of the disenfranchised and marginalized, which is awesome since Twitter has not done a great job of protecting that group in any way.  However some events happened recently and because of them I am glad that I joined up several weeks ago rather than right now at this time.  I was able to see what I thought was the ActivityPub community in its native state, talking about interesting things openly and publicly and willing to friend each other just as easily.  I was able to get settled in quickly with the help of a whole slew of people who offered useful advice as I docked myself into a corner of this big maelstrom of interesting things. I started out on Mastodon.cloud which was a large … [Read more...] about Tarnished Hope

Night Falls

Unfortunate Bonus Round This is going to be a bit of an oddity for me, I am breaking my normal one post per day rule.  I feel like the gravity of the situation warrants it, because right now I am feeling so many different emotions at the same time.  By now most of you will have heard the news that I believe first broke over on the newly erected Massively OP website.  Today Daybreak Games, formerly Sony Online Entertainment has chosen to make some sweeping cuts to staff.  Among the individuals caught in this madness were none other than Dave “Smokejumper” Georgeson and and Linda “Brasse” Carlson.  I cannot fathom a chain of consequences that would lead to this happening, but I will get into that later.  For me and many others these two individuals along with Scott Hartsman before he left to join Trion…  were the face of the Everquest franchise.  They were the spirit of the game, and the lifeblood that kept the player … [Read more...] about Night Falls

What Will Go F2P Next? We Offer Up 6 Predictions

Back in 2015, I made a few predictions about MMORPGs that I thought had a chance – even if only a slim one – of going free-to-play. Of the six games we addressed, two of them have gone full or at least semi-F2P; Eve Online has a F2P option, while The Secret World dove headlong into F2P in 2017.The other four games on our list – Elite: Dangerous, The Elder Scrolls Online, Final Fantasy XIV, and World of Warcraft – haven’t made any significant changes to their payment models over the past four years, but those aren’t too surprising. I gave them all low-ish chances of doing it, and they didn’t do it. That means I was correct, right? Right? That said, I was a little prescient in one of my side comments: Also, I decided not to include games that haven’t yet launched, like Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade or Star Citizen. Maybe next year? Eternal Crusade is indeed free-to-play now, while Star Citizen launched in 2016 … I mean, 2017 … [Read more...] about What Will Go F2P Next? We Offer Up 6 Predictions
