Steel Circus is gunning for the big boys in gaming. Well, not technically “gunning,” because none of the characters have guns. But there are staves, shields (you can throw), and plenty of fisticuffs in the rough-and-tumble sports game from Iron Mountain Interactive. The premise of Steel Circus is simple. There are three players per side and a ball, and the objective is to toss the ball into your opponent’s net. The team with the most goals at the end of regulation wins. If you’re like me, you’re already thinking, “Oh, so it’s Rocket League.” No, you see, Rocket League has cars. This has people. Not enough? That’s fair, because there are about a hundred games out there going for that “competitive e-sports vibe,” and I asked Game Director Helmut Hutterer about that during our play session this week. “The team aspect,” was his first response. Although there certainly is room for individually skilled players to … [Read more...] about Interview: Hands-On With Futuristic Football Title Steel Circus

How I Made a Million Gold in WoW in 1 Month
Only a few months ago I had just 100k gold. That gold took me (literally) a decade to accrue. If you asked me about making gold in WoW I would have told you that it was only doable by getting lucky, gaming the system, being a first mover, or taking advantage of some stupid system from a past expansion (like WoD's garrisons). I decided that I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could pay for my subscription purely by playing the game. I knew it wouldn't be easy. I'm on a low-medium pop server, and I promised myself I would put NONE of my gold into the process. If I was going to make money, it wouldn't be through investments. So I set off on this journey to pay for my token, and what resulted was 10x my goal. I made over a million gold in PROFIT in less than 30 days. Here are the lessons I learned along the way. Lesson 1: Exchanging Time for Money Works, but It's Not Fun I started by farming A LOT. I put in several hours a day to grind mobs for skinning, gather herbs to sell, etc. I … [Read more...] about How I Made a Million Gold in WoW in 1 Month
City of Heroes: Welcome to Nova Praetoria!
Last week our City of Heroes group assembled once more, this time for adventures in Nova Praetoria. That’s actually an area/expansion that I hadn’t ever encountered in the MMO to date, as it came out when I was on a break from the game. Unlike the “blueside” content of the Heroes and the “redside” content of the Villains, “goldside” exists in an interesting state of limbo that was a fascinating direction for the game with Going Rogue came out in 2010. Giving players the ability to switch allegiances and explore the more murky grey areas of comic book superheroes provided a much-needed third angle to the title — and one that I don’t see any of the upcoming superhero MMORPGs addressing. Just getting to Nova Praetoria was a bizarre experience of going through The Underground — a network of sewers and subway tunnels that I had never seen before either. Along the way, I bumped into these grotesque cyborgs that raised all … [Read more...] about City of Heroes: Welcome to Nova Praetoria!
Wildstar’s Jumpstart Pack – Is it worth the price?
I only just wrote about Wildstar’s housing and wondered whether you could get the housing teleporter and now they added it to their store for the cost of 720 NCoins. I assume that once the game launches on Steam, it will appear as DLC in their store as well. 800 NCoins cost 10 €, so this is 9 €. Granted, it’s more expensive than it was back when we bought it as part of a Humble Bundle. But that’s the whole point of the Humble Bundle, right? To attract people to buy stuff and then maybe add a bit of money on top. Anyway, I thought I’d take a closer look at what the Jumpstart Pack offers, in case you are wondering whether it’s worth your money. The Jumpstart Pack includes several items. Some are multi-claim and some can only be claimed with one character. Multi-claim means that every character – present and future ones – can claim the item as often as they would like. So don’t worry about accidentally deleting that item, you can … [Read more...] about Wildstar’s Jumpstart Pack – Is it worth the price?
Red Dead Online players voice concerns over game’s economy and balance
As of today, Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer component, Red Dead Online, is available to all players, and while the experience has been largely well received, a significant portion of the playerbase has taken to Reddit, Twitter, and the game’s forums to voice their concerns about the state of RDO’s economy. Much of the costernation comes as a result of the implemenation of gold bars, the game’s premium currency, which can be used to unlock certain items (such as guns) prior to meeting the level requirements to use them as well as to purchase certain cosmetic items like clothing and hairstyles. Reddit user UnavailableIDs did some rough (but apparently more-or-less accurate) math and came to the conclusion that, on average, it will take around eight hours of playtime to earn a single gold bar. For reference, it costs 12 gold bars to change the color of your starting pistol to be all blackened steel. Although the game’s microtransaction store is currently … [Read more...] about Red Dead Online players voice concerns over game’s economy and balance
