Morning folks! I am getting a very late start this morning because… well… it’s my birthday and I slept in significantly later than normal. However at this point I have had breakfast and piddled around a bit and decided to go ahead and blog. I contemplated skipping because I am technically on vacation. One of the lessons I learned early in my career is that it is perfectly okay to take your birthday off. Each birthday seems to have a different reaction for me… some of them are broody and introspective and others relatively happy. So far 43 doesn’t seem to be coming with any major negative side effects, so we are going to call it a good one. Last night I continued my madness and managed to finish the Trials of the Braves. When I started down this road at least partially inspired by Ashgar I had no clue how far I was from the finish. It turns out that I was three books away and between the last two days I managed to knock those out. The other side … [Read more...] about Trial of the Braves

After I finished upgrading everything I could on my cheap fiddle, I was pretty happy with where I stood. Well, for about half a practice lesson. Then, the buzzing began. At first, it was just on the D string. Currently, I’m still playing my lessons pizzicato (plucking strings and not bowing), and this would happen most times that I held down a string to make a note. Open string seemed fine. Then, the A string started it, too. This, of course, diverted my attention from practice to troubleshooting because it was super annoying to try to play while there’s a buzz in the strings. I went as far as to restring the D string (I’m getting a lot of stringing practice) to try to figure it out. No go. I then spent some time researching buzzing strings online. Oh man… I had no idea how sensitive an instrument this is. Just about anything could cause a buzz… from loose tuners to strings touching the inside of the peg box to the chin rest touching the tail piece to … [Read more...] about Mystery of the Buzzing Violin Strings
So this may mark the longest it’s ever taken me to get through an MMO expansion, as I started Knights of the Fallen Empire, oh, back in October 2015 and am only now wrapping it up in the late hours of May 2019. Despite a really strong start, I ran out of steam midway through and left the game for a good long while. I am glad I came back, however, because sometimes you want to see how everything plays out, you know? The final two chapters accelerated the drama and tension of this expansion, which had a tendency to sag in the middle. SCORPIO, predictably, betrayed me and my crew, and unpredictably stole the Eternal Throne from right out under Arcann and his sister. Having a former companion, even a shady one, become a Big Bad Boss, is a pretty gutsy move on BioWare’s part. I always liked SCORPIO because she was a darker, more sinister droid that you always felt could turn on you at any moment. And despite the last couple of levels being nothing but lengthy excursions through … [Read more...] about SWTOR: Knights of the Fallen Empire completed!
Sea of Thieves players can look forward to these features when the anniversary update, The Hunter’s Call, comes out at the end of the month. “Pirate bard Merrick, a true survivor of the Sea of Thieves, has decided to build on his experiences by founding a new Trading Company known as The Hunter’s Call. This ragtag band boasts experts in hunting, fishing and cooking and would like all pirates to master the same skills. Handsome rewards await those who can catch the rarest creatures and cook the finest dishes!” When the update rolls out, players will be able to go fishing and sell the day’s catch at the Hunter’s Call. Or, they can cook the fish themselves using the new Cooking System. Cooking fish, meat, or fruit increases the effectiveness of their healing. Just be careful not to undercook or burn them. Harpoon guns will also be added to a ship’s arsenal with the update. Ship’s will now come with two bow-mounted harpoon guns that can be … [Read more...] about Fish, Cook, And Hunt With The Sea Of Thieves Hunter’s Call Anniversary Update
