Last week our City of Heroes group assembled once more, this time for adventures in Nova Praetoria. That’s actually an area/expansion that I hadn’t ever encountered in the MMO to date, as it came out when I was on a break from the game. Unlike the “blueside” content of the Heroes and the “redside” content of the Villains, “goldside” exists in an interesting state of limbo that was a fascinating direction for the game with Going Rogue came out in 2010. Giving players the ability to switch allegiances and explore the more murky grey areas of comic book superheroes provided a much-needed third angle to the title — and one that I don’t see any of the upcoming superhero MMORPGs addressing. Just getting to Nova Praetoria was a bizarre experience of going through The Underground — a network of sewers and subway tunnels that I had never seen before either. Along the way, I bumped into these grotesque cyborgs that raised all … [Read more...] about City of Heroes: Welcome to Nova Praetoria!

Ready to explore more story in The Division 2? You can do so starting today with the early access launch of Episode 1, including access to two new story missions and the first Investigation Area of the new PvE experience. Lots of fun stuff to do, then, assuming you have a season pass for this portion of the game. If not… well, you’ll have to just wait for another week and hope that any friends who do have early access won’t rub it in. On the bright side, though, everything else in the update is available for all players, including skill reworkings and balance changes. There are new weapons and exotics, new crafting options… lots of stuff to enjoy if you’re willing to wait a little bit to get all of the new stuff available with the story updates, so that’s good. Of course, players with the season pass don’t need to wait in the first place, so… you know, work that one out. … [Read more...] about The Division 2 opens up early access to its first episode

I apologize for being quiet around here lately. Between my real job picking up with a big new project and my own little side adventure I’ll be getting into in the moment, I haven’t had a lot of time to post. It happens. But hey, that’s just the bad news. The good news is you’ll have a chance to see a lot more of me coming soon if you enjoy my trademark wit, dry observations, and eccentric ramblings. We are going live on Twitch! Previously I had been testing the waters out with the Premiere system – kind of like YouTube videos on Twitch but with the videos premiering “Live” at a set point before being added to an archive. Now the current plan is still to do those, but augment it with nights where I’ll be broadcasting games live. The premieres will be used for migrating my YouTube archive over to Twitch, weeks were I know I won’t be available, or for videos I need to do more post-production work on … [Read more...] about Welcome to the (Live) Show!
