A while back, an MMO player I follow on Twitter who also happens to be super into sports retweeted something fun into my feed: a thread about banning annoying words. “You get to ban one word from the entire lexicon of sports. What word are you banning?” We need to do this for MMOs. I bet you folks can come up with some whoppers that we’re all just sick of hearing. For this week’s Massively Overthinking, you get to ban one word (or a brief phrase, if you must) from the entire lexicon of MMORPGs. What word are you banning – and more importantly, why would you, or all of us, be better off with it gone? Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): My banned word is “score.” No gear score, arena score, high score…. no scores. Games are fun, but MMOs feel stronger as virtual worlds than game games. I miss communities more than my ranks. Andy McAdams: I’m gonna go for a twofer: hardcore/casual. It’s such a drama-laden distinction, both plagued by … [Read more...] about Massively Overthinking: Let’s ban a word from the MMORPG lexicon

[Closed Roleplay] Caravan to Avermore
We’ve been having a lot of fun over at The Arcanist’s Mill and the roleplaying community has exploded. There are now more people than ever who are interested in fleshing out their characters. While the Tavern is free for all to join, and anyone is welcome - this is something different. The Caravan to Avermore is a ‘closed roleplay’ where we invite people to join in. We will all work together to form a story, much like a television series, only the players control the characters and decide the direction of the story. If you would like to roleplay, please join The Arcanist’s Mill - it is very welcoming and free for anyone to join. This is a story set in the world of Fractured, including Beastmen from the planet Arboreus. It is set on the human planet of Syndesia and follows on from the Arcanist’s Mill as the characters travel from the town of Kuasrine to Avermore. An 'event' will occur every Friday that the characters will need to react to. We hope you … [Read more...] about [Closed Roleplay] Caravan to Avermore
House Pythias [HoPy] — Now recruiting
:: House Pythias :: House Pythias will stand as the first official House in Fractured. A little excited for this, not going to lie. As for what is planned, please take a look down below oooor if you want a too long, don't feel like reading all day. The gist of it is simple: Help one another, travel, learn, build, craft, trade, commit atrocities, love, bake, have a tournament, distill alcohol, and perform regular shenanigans. Okay, so maybe a few things aren't going to be completely on the list. Still, fun for both roleplay and serious gaming, this will be a Player versus Everything in the sense of other players and everything that wants to eat you. There will be usual meetings scheduled for the guild concerning the general politics, regulations and maintenance of the guild as a whole. ::Roles:: Roles following the multiple branches of the House hasn't changed much and remain as: The Laborer's Gathering:: Leader's Title: Quartermaster The Tradesmen Assembly:: Leader's Title: Artisan … [Read more...] about House Pythias [HoPy] — Now recruiting

Xur Week Four: 10/6/17
Happy Xursday! Since this seems to be a fairly popular feature I will be doing a run down of what Xur has this week. Since the Flashpoint is in the European Dead Zone he is found over in the winding cove area. For characters who have yet to hit 20… you can get there by just going west out of town and winding along the coastline… but in truth I would warn against doing this because his items degrade in power based on your level. This time Xur is a little tricky given that the previous three weeks he has been in some sort of a sheltered area, and this time he is up on top of a cliff that you are going to have to do a bit of wall jumping to get to. Another thing to watch out for… the area he is in is patrolled by a group of dregs on pikes. Additionally there may or may not be a public event active at the drop zone in the winding cove area. Essentially this is probably the most dangerous area Xur has been so far, just be … [Read more...] about Xur Week Four: 10/6/17
