I flat out lied yesterday morning. No blog post ever happened because it was one hell of a weird day. First off I did not sleep hardly at all Sunday night. I am not sure what was up but I spent most of my night tossing and turning and staring at the clock as it kept ticking up towards our 5:30 wake up time. Then Kenzie our oft times asshole cat woke us up around 5… because apparently she was afraid we would over sleep? I took Monday and Tuesday off this week to combine it with Wednesday that we were getting for the 4th of July. This has given me a five day weekend… and it has been glorious. Now when I originally took the time off it was as the suggestion of my boss… given that it was shaping up that I was going to be the only manager in the office Thursday and Friday. There was nothing really planned at all, but my wife decided to take this opportunity for me being off to schedule a bunch of things that otherwise needed to … [Read more...] about Hot Shower and Tall Toilet

Vague Patch Notes: Casual no longer means anything in MMOs
Every time I see someone write something about casual players – including me because heavens know I’ve done it too – I feel a knot tighten in the back of my throat. Because it’s an awful term. I’ve talked before about how there are bits of MMO terminology that rub me the wrong way. Some of them are purely pedantic (“mobs” comes from Mobile Object Blocks, and it’s an understandable term but one that belies a mismatch of terminology) or just personal (“toon” is a terrible term for your characters) while the term itself is still functional. But there are other terms I dislike because they don’t actually do what they’re supposed to do, like “pay-to-win.” “Casual” is one such term. It had a meaning and a use at one point, but that has been buried now under years and years of misapplication. We desperately need better terminology than “casual,” especially since most reasonable … [Read more...] about Vague Patch Notes: Casual no longer means anything in MMOs
Outdated! Guild Wars 2 in a nutshell – a FAQ
There is a newer version of this article which you can find here. (Updated: January 17, 2012) What do we know about the game so far? I’m trying to keep it as short as possible. Knowing me, I will fail at that. ;) For further reading, I’ll include links. This is also for people who’ve just recently heard of Guild Wars 2 and now want to know more. :) Since the game is still in development and hasn’t even reached beta yet (note: I think I read a statement that they would like to get into closed beta before the end of the year. The release date will then be determined by how well the beta goes and what kind of feedback comes in), about everything is subject to change. Also, new information comes out every now and then which might outdate what you can read here. If you notice any of that – or just errors that I’ve made – please comment (with sources if possible). I’m going to use the same categories that I’ve used for my “Rift vs. … [Read more...] about Outdated! Guild Wars 2 in a nutshell – a FAQ
WRUP: The second shade of Sycamore House edition
The second shade was neither hostile nor evasive; at first glance it seemed friendly and articulate. To a casual observer it appeared to be some 17th-century nobleman, well-groomed and handsome, greeting us as we moved through the house and offering to explain his situation. Kyle was the first to take him up on the offer, and also the last. We only heard the first thing he said to Kyle: “I’m not supposed to be here. There’s been a terrible mistake.” Joanne was unsettled, and though she could not explain why, try as she might, she ushered us away from the shade even as Kyle settled on the floor to listen to the shade. She even shouted at the top of her lungs so we could hear none of his words until we were two floors down, at which point we could still hear the voice but not make out the words. Joanne herself was hoarse from shouting for half a week. Kyle didn’t come downstairs that evening, or the following morning. When we went upstairs to find him once … [Read more...] about WRUP: The second shade of Sycamore House edition
