It’s a new year, so let’s go ahead and make a New Year’s resolution right now: I promise to write every day. It doesn’t have to be much. But it has to be something. Something. Anything. It can be a journal entry. (See The Five-Minute Journal.) It can be a blog post. It can be a 750 word free-write. It can be an avant-garde poem about a wilting flower. It doesn’t matter. But you need to write… every day. This is how you master the craft of writing. Nobody just sits down and stares at a blank page (or screen) and in 30 minutes comes up with the next great piece of literature. That doesn’t happen. In order to master your craft, you need to practice that craft. And in order to practice that craft, you need to: Maintain a discipline. What your discipline looks like is surely different than what my discipline looks like, but the important thing is that you stay consistent. You need to consistently stay disciplined every single day. In case … [Read more...] about 5 Things To Practice To Become A Great Blog Writer

12 Easy UX Improvements You Need to Know About
UX has a long history… going back way beyond the digital era. Restaurants have always been concerned about User Experience, and so have museums and hotels. The chef, the curator, the innkeeper—these people have always had a vested interest in your comfort, your enjoyment… your experience. Today, however, ‘UX’ is most often applied to software applications and websites. How easy is it to navigate a site? Is there a steep learning curve to using the site/application? How frustrating is it when the user makes an error? Is the site trustworthy? Do users find what they expect? Do they get what they need? From a visitor’s very first impression right on through to the engagement you hope they’ll pursue, every minute should be effortless. Interacting with your site/app should be pleasurable, easy, engaging, and efficient. That, in a nutshell, is ‘User Experience’ (UX). Tech changes at a lightning-fast pace. Every day, … [Read more...] about 12 Easy UX Improvements You Need to Know About

Free Signup If you’ve ever written a blog post before, then you’ve probably had stray commas and misspelled words that you somehow overlooked during your proofreading process. Grammatical errors in your blog posts are one of the quickest ways to make a reader stop reading your content and move on to something (and somewhere) else. You can proofread for an hour, or even have someone do it for you, but the reality is that you’re only human, and you will make even the silliest mistakes. Like Harsh, I’m … [Read more...] about How Grammarly Can Help You Stop Making Mistakes in English

I am not exactly sure why but seven years seems like a significantly more auspicious number than five or six or even eight. Culturally we place a strange importance on the number seven as either lucky or magical, and I have to admit that I fall for this same trap myself. In the Seven years I have published 1260 posts, and they have been read a grand total of 235,304 times at the moment of pulling the stats. Over the course of this blogs lifespan I’ve had 110,359 unique readers from 182 countries, and roughly … [Read more...] about Seven Years
